Davante Deundra Thomas, 33, of Alexandria, allegedly kicked in the door of a home in the 1800 block of Henry Avenue on November 8, around 7:36 a.m. RPSO said he was armed with a handgun and fired at the homeowner.

The homeowner returned fire and hit the suspect. When RPSO arrived, they found Thomas’s body inside the home, with the gun still in his hand.

RPSO is still investigating the incident. If you have any further information, you are asked to contact RPSO Detectives at 319-473-6727 or RPSO Main Office at 318-473-6700.

In the daylight? This feels targeted instead of a B&E or random act of violence

Yeah, I tend to agree. But, it could also be that the burglar thought the owner wasn't home.

Went to bed extra early to catch breakfast with a side of lead. Google earth is only showing 6 houses on Henry st and a 10yo could kick in every door.

Another law suit coming from the family on the way. How dare the home owner kill poor devanta when he didn't hit the home owner first.

Yes and No. While I am glad the home owner wasn't injured or killed based off the report, that is the only happy ending. At 33 I would assume he probably has kids, a mom, a grandmother, and siblings. If he resorted to B&E that area, then this sudden expense can't be something they can easily shoulder. So they will be burdened further financially and be without a loved one. Not saying they didn't have a part in what may have lead to this, but a lost life and the grief felt isn't happy, nor is a life wasted.

Our life is a vapor. Make a positive impact while you can.

What if next time he kicked in a door while armed and shot a pregnant mother of three ?

Then maybe he should have started the day by making better decisions instead of breaking into someone's home armed with a handgun. He wasn't there to deliver milk, he was there to do harm and got what he deserved.

Good for the homeowner to spare the legal system and save another potential victim of this criminal because you just know he'd be out of jail in a short time and back on the streets ready to continue his "career".

I’d absolutely be willing to bet the homeowner was a dealer and the dead guy knew exactly what he was going for and had been there before

Would he still be alive if he didn’t decide to do an armed robbery? Yes
Did he make a good decision that day? No

Sorry, I refuse to feel sorry for anyone that makes these kinds of decisions. You can feel sorry for the both of us if you want. Thankfully, the homeowner and victim was armed and ready.
