What’s our current record with Shough starting day one?

I’d say floor is 3-7, ceiling 5-5.

Easily 3 winnable games in there, maybe 4. Hard to say if he would have won them, but I think we would have had a better shot.
This was always my issue with "the plan". It was clear even in preseason Shough was the better player, but we went with the "vet".

It's about not ruining him, while secretly maintaining a bad team record.
Get me a top 10 pick rather than the dreaded 12-16

it was the right move not throwing shough to the wolves early
let him sit and watch

It wasn’t clear in preseason is the issue. Game wise I didn’t see much difference. You could go either way. Practice reports told a different story. All reports were that Rattler looked much better in camp/scrimmages and this was backed by what Moore said when making his decision.
Now maybe him being a “vet” is why Kellen made the decision but that wasn’t the reasoning he gave. I don’t believe there was a plan. It just got to a point Rattler wasn’t improving on the things the coaches wanted to see and him attempting to do those things came with an increase in turnovers so Kellen made the move.

Doesn't matter. This season was and is about talent evaluation and roster building. Not winning (significantly anyway)
The most important thing that has come from the first 9 games is Rattler's book has been closed as it relates to the QB1 position on the New Orleans Saints. No question, no one can say but what if, or second guess. He was given a lot of time and he improved but not enough to warrant NOT making a change.
Now it's time for Shough to prove he is capable of leading this team. Dispite Sundays game it's still and unanswered question at this point.

This team wasn’t competing for a Super Bowl anyway. It gave Shough some time to adjust to the NFL game/schedule and also put us in a good position to get a high pick. Now Shough gets half a season to continue to grow, and we have a good chance at adding a top receiver in this draft to pair with him and Olave.

They both have an arm and can scramble a bit, while struggling with accuracy at times. Beyond that Shough is better at everything else (pocket awareness, general field awareness, read progression which is the HUGE issue with Rattler, willingness to throw deep and not just airmail it while doing so, willingness to take a hit while delivering a throw, and being more consistent with accuracy than Rattler).
It wasn’t clear in preseason is the issue.

Hopefully he wins at most 1 more game. Tennessee only has 1 win. Then its us along with the browns, jets, raiders, and Giants with 2 wins. So right now we would pick no worse than 6th. I'd much rather have a top 3 pick than 6th.

IMO, Moore wanted to run a balanced / safe offense that leaned on the running game and possessed the ball. You saw it in the Cardinals and 49ers game where he played everything way to safe. I suspect Rattler starting had more to do with the methodical offense he wanted to run. When the wheels fell off, there was no need for that type of QB.

Well then why didn’t Moore start him?
He showed some spark game 1 of preseason. But not much in the other games.

Are you discussing preseason or just in general. Because it sounds like you are just giving the scouting report of rattler. Because going back to last year and most of this regular season outside 1 game this pretty much describes Rattler. He was pretty sharp for the most part in the preseason though which is what I thought we were discussing.

Can’t look at it like that. Can’t really put a value on how much 2 months of week in and out preparation helped get him ready to perform better when it was eventually his turn. It’s not a vacuum of plugging him in and that equates to more wins.

Winning 1 more now puts Wash, Miami, Cincy, Atl, Az & Dal into the mix, all with 3 wins.
Also, Browns & Raiders play each other in 2 weeks, so 1 of them will get their 3rd win soon.
And NYG & LV play at the end of the year (W17); so if Clev can beat LV & LV beats NYG that gives 2 teams with 3 wins.
Of course, Saints will manage to win 5-7 games and we're picking in the teens

We can really frick up the draft pick with wins vs the 3 win Falcons and Dolphins. Its hard to hope that we lose but also that Shough balls out while doing it.
Saint play: Jets/ Dolphins/ Titans
Browns play: Titans/ Raiders
Jets play: Dolphins/ Saints
Raiders play: Browns/ Giants

No one knows how he would have reacted playing game 1. Much tougher schedule, and he would have Ratt looking over his shoulder.
There’s value in sitting and watching. Ratt is no longer a threat and the schedule lightens up.

Perhaps the path he took to get here is the reason he looked good.
I’d be wary of setting yourself up for disappointment. His development won’t be linear, he will lose to some of these teams that fans think he should win. There will be stinkets. The deck is still stacked against him with this roster, so just stay cool

If Shough is the guy, having a top 3 pick doesn't mean as much. I would rather him grow into the role and have a taste of success than pick in the top 3. I have said it the last few weeks. Give me the Drake Maye rookie season where you still wind up with a top 5 pick and you know you have your QB of the future.

I liked how he handled the game. If he can at least do this on a consistent basis he'll do fine for us. I liked how he was able to push the ball down field. 10.4 yards per attempt was outstanding.

If Shough plays well, our strength of schedule sets up for a few wins. I think we want to keep it at 5 wins or less. Of course you’ll take him playing well and winning.
Teams marked with green are our competition
ETA - this is the strength of schedules for the remainder of the season
