People getting competitive over weather?

What gives…it never fails around the office. First colder morning of the year, and over hearing most are casually discussing the nice mid-40s temperature.
Then there’s the guy in a suburb somewhere claiming it creeped into the 30s at his house.
Then over-compensating F-250 driver with a 2 hour commute chimes in that it got to freezing (32) on his ‘property’.
Then there’s always the wise old ‘rain gauge’ man with snow on the ground at his ranch.
What do people gain about being weather one uppers? Just enjoy the cooler air people. You never see Executives involved in these discussions.

The weather station on my property consistently reads 5 degrees cooler than what twc app claims it is

The weather phenomenon at my house was unreal this a.m.
I woke up to snow on the ground-------------and that was in my bedroom. I had to trudge through the stuff in my flip-flops since I never got my snow shoes out of storage yet.
It was so cold in the closeted area where my central heating unit is that I had to start a small fire in the return air chamber to warm the machine up so it could get to working.
And this all took place in New Orleans....................

I was in SW Wyoming in the early ‘80s and a strong winter storm came through. The next morning afterwards the relative humidity was even negative.
