It’s the offensive line

Yes Nuss has been massively disappointing. Yes the WRs have had drops. Yes the play calling has been suspect. Yes the RBs appear to have trouble finding the holes.
But all of that stems from the worst OL that I have seen at LSU. Porous would a wholly inadequate way to describe this group.
If that unit was just bad and not eye bleedingly terrible, the rest of the crew could have possibly gotten us to the playoffs with two losses.
It doesn’t matter who plays QB or RB or WR. It doesn’t matter who calls the plays. You could bring back Joe Brady and the entire 2019 skill group and LSU would still lose 2-3 games with this line.
They are so bad that I can’t even blame the players. Either they were so poorly evaluated that they should not be at LSU to begin with, or they have had the worst coaching in the country.
I tend to think it’s the latter. Most of us here watch a lot of football. You can’t tell me that based on looks alone that our starting five is that much less athletic and talented than every other team in the SEC. They are woefully coached and prepared.

OL.is terrible, QB decision making is atrocious, play calling is flat-out poor, WR/TE play is poor and RB play is poor outside of Berry (though he had the bad fumble last night). It's a group effort to suck this bad.

I would argue that if our OL play was 4 out of 10 instead of 1 out of 10, all these problems would suddenly look much less glaring.
I’m not letting anyone off the hook, but one unit is much worse than the others.

I’ve watched the tape on them quite a bit, the offensive line that is. They have atrocious technique. They can’t move people because they play with wide hands, loose punches and they stand up straight. The offensive line is awful and it’s why everything else is poor. I can’t stress enough to people how impossible it is to coordinate an offense and call plays when you can’t block at all.

This is a total fail from Kelly and his staff. There is no way in the portal world to have one of the worst lines in college football. Lazy brain dead coaching.

What was the issue running the ball last season?
This team sucks

3.62 rushing YPC # 116 in the nation.
101 rushing YPG # 122 in the nation.
19 sacks allowed # 88 in the nation.
53 tackles for loss allowed # 92 in the nation.
26 rushing plays of 10+ yards # 128 in the nation.
38.6% 3rd down conversion rate # 82 in the nation.
19.7 First downs per game # 86 in the nation.
51.52 Red Zone Touchdown % #115 in the nation.
62 Penalties #85 in the nation.
Anybody that knows anything about football shouldn’t be blaming Nussmeier for this shite show. 2 freshman offensive tackles in the line up at the same time in Tuscaloosa in the NIL era is incomprehensible.

It all starts up front. The OLine has been a massive liability.

I was concerned about the line at the beginning of the season, as I thought they weren't mean enough in the guards and center last year, a key component to running inside.
It is way worse than I feared.

100% as the biggest problem but, coaching and a oc who should not have been. Top this off with a qb who is not a threat to run

quote:I agree, but go back to the very beginning and blame Shrimpy Orgeron for hiring Davis in the first place. O initiated it all. Kelly, Woodward and currently Wilson & Ausberry have all continued the "Diabolical Davis Dysfunction." I certainly don't get it.

Moore has been a stud. He's an early round draft choice and he earned his NIL. No other offensive transfer in this most recent class made a difference.

It is the OL as by far the #1 problem on offense. I can't possibly tell you whether it is lack of talent or lack of OL coaching but it really doesn't matter. The OL sucks big time. Second worst problem on offense has been Sloan. There are PARTIAL solutions to a bad OL and he never tried them. More screen passes, misdirections like counters, running the wildcat on short yardage situations, the occasional trick play, etc. Third worst problem is a QB who refuses to run past the LOS when there is open real estate.
And for those who want to blame Kelly for the offensive woes, his name was on the head coaching office door. Davis should have been fired last season. Sloan should have never been promoted to OC and his resume for that position was only La Tech. On the QB situation, I cut him some slack there. LSU had Underwood committed until he reneged. And Van Buren last night didn't exactly light it up.

Oline is so bad especially the left tackle. He’s awful

Davis cannot be shown the door fast enough. Can’t wait to get a new OL coach! Desperately needed. With a crappy oline you truly are fricked in this league. You cant have a functional offense and that keeps the defense on the field way too long. And everything is screwed. I’m almost just as excited about the new OL hire as I am the head coach.
