Defense had a great game last night but we shouldn't get too caught up in the moment and forget how poorly he's handled mobile QBs here for 2 years now. The good thing is we all know what his weakness is and he's young enough that he should be able to adjust to fix it, or maybe bring in someone who can help.

The guy is impressive and the players seem to love playing for him. It would've been very easy for the defensive staff to mail it in and get complacent this year, similar to how coaches mailed it in under Orgeron when he checked out. But despite a completely worthless offensive staff at every level, he's managed to keep the defense engaged and on track. Keeping the defensive staff in place wouldn't certainly help with roster retention FWIW

So what are yalls thoughts? I go back and forth bc of the way he handles mobile QBs, but I'm somewhat optimistic that he can fix that

He’s gone. He’ll have plenty of offers. Who’d want to stay at a dumpster fire?

Momentum is real and he rarely gets to capitalize off of it with how our offense plays

The new head coach makes the call on that.

He’s been excellent this year. Guys play hard for him and he gets the most out of them. The defensive situation can be way worse, see Matt House, and we need to do whatever we can to retain him IMO, and I’m usually a big “clean house completely” guy. We need his attitude, leadership, and connection with the players right now

I’d try to keep him. New regime could help scheme for mobile QBs.

He’s a players coach who seems to be able to identify good talent and plays aggressive. I like it.

However, I don’t see Blake staying here.

New coach will want his guy and Blake will probably have an elite offer from a contender needing a change on defense.

Oh are you the AD? It's a message board post to discuss whether we would be happy with him being retained or not

I like Baker, he’s good and has room to grow.

However, new HC should be able to choose his staff and not hamstrung by any staff requirements.

But yes, I’d be inclined to keep Baker.

Let's revisit after the Arkansas game. I think the consensus was that our defense could be effective against Bama, their QB is not a big runner. that proved to be true.

Arkansas does have a running QB and they've been running the points up on everyone they have played this year.

We went out and spent a lot of money on defense and brought in a lot of talented veteran players. And we still have two games on the schedule where the defense looked like absolute garbage because we can't seem to scheme against running QB's.

We matched up well with Alabama's offense. Baker has struggled with running QBs and has shown little ability to adjust to stop them, in games and from game to game. I don't think he's the answer.

Very true. I’m not championing Baker, but we’ve all seen some of the best defensive coaches get toasted, but learn and adapt.

Everybody gone. A new head coach will breathe new air into the program. All of the old needs to go. Jmo

I wouldn’t force the new HC to keep him. But I wouldn’t be furious if he did

The new coach has to have the ability to put together his own staff.
