Paramount has killed the Star Trek Kelvin timeline

The Star Trek Abramsverse is no more:
Apparently, at one point the script was written for a Kelvin Trek 4, sets were built, and everyone was waiting for shooting to begin. No one seems to really be able to pin down why shooting didn't start. The sets have since been torn down.

After eight years on hiatus and another being jerked around by the whims of scrambling executives, a new report suggests the Star Trek Kevlin Timeline is officially dead in the water, as Paramount wants to move the franchise away from having anything to do with J.J. Abrams’ lens flare-heavy trilogy. The reboot film series’ apparent scrapping was first reported by Variety’s Tatiana Siegel, Brent Lang, and Matt Donnelly as part of their deep dive into newly appointed Paramount CEO David Ellison’s dramatic first 100 days at the head of the studio.

If Star Trek can ditch its shitty sequels, surely Star Wars can too.
Kill the past. Let it die. Or something like that.

NGL, I'm gonna miss Karl Urban playing Bones McCoy.
But yeah, the entire trash timeline needed to go.

Very good news. Now if they can retcon the destruction of the Romulan Empire.

I love Urban but his character was a B movie level parody of Bones.

Surprised by these reactions. I enjoyed them all and was hoping for a 4th. The characters were great.

Good, time to focus on getting back to the basics with the tv shows too.

This. About the only way I can take this news with any satisfaction is if they follow it up with news about restarting the universe with the SNW cast.

The movies in the series got progressively worse to me, could never finish the 3rd one.

Sadly they are still better than anything else Star Trek has put out in the past 20 years.

That's okay. The best Star Wars since Empire is a Disney+ streaming series that literally nobody thought would go anywhere since we know how the story ends before Andor even started filming.

Same. Were they great? No. But better than the last Star Wars garbage that came out. I enjoyed watching them enough.

I didn't mind the Kelvin verse - while not great, I enjoyed them

Good... while the first one was entertaining, it never felt like Star Trek.. and the next two were just mediocre.
Changing Kahn was just fricking weird. Even if the timeline changed, he predates the event where the timeline branched by centuries.
Even Strange New Worlds, which tried to explain away why Kahn's ascension was at different points didn't turn him into a white guy with a British accent.

This was my take as well. First one wasn't that bad, second was a steep drop off, never even bothered with the third.
All the new tv shows theyve made are all spectacularly awful.

The best shows/movies from the Disney Star Wars list (actively enjoyable and good shows):
Andor (obviously)
Mandolorian (S1 and S2)
Rogue One
Bad Batch
Okay shows/movies (no real impact one way or another):
Solo
Ahsoka
Kenobi (the last episode only, IMHO)
The Force Awakens
Skeleton Crew
Shows/movies that are actively hurting the brand:
TLJ
ROS
The Acolyte
Book of Boba Fett

What bugged me the most might have been water park ride that was the engineering room on the Enterprise. Absolute garbage.

The final season of Picard is full on nostalgia, and IMO was great. Strange New Worlds is pretty good, the final two seasons are supposedly going to be more serious, which is good news.

The rapid fire analogies were beyond stupid. Bones never did that but all of the characters were like that, Abrams style parodies or completely different characters all together even down to their specialties. And the way they’re all suddenly promoted couldn’t be more stupid, especially Kirk and the bonanza of idiocy that leads to his rise on the ship.
