Stepping back, it's just crazy that we've only been to the playoff once

We’ve been an incredibly mediocre program since 2012. Averaging 4-5 losses a year outside of 2019. So maybe not that crazy.

Outside of the ten year stretch of Saban and Les riding the Saban effect for 5-6 year this is who we’ve always been outside of a magically random 2019.

1 of only 6 teams that have ever won it all. Hardly mediocre although we should have made the CFP more than once.

Schools with multiple CFP:
Texas (0 championships)
OU (0 championships)
Oregon (0 championships)
Washington (0 championships)
Notre Dame (0 championships)
Michigan (1 championship)
Georgia (2 championships)
Ohio State (2 championships)
Clemson (2 championships)
Alabama (3 championships)

Bingo. This will be 20 out of 25 years since 2000 we have ended the season with 3 or more losses. We have a lot more of those seasons than most want to believe here.

Yep and expectations this year were for a 9-3/8-4 season

I will scream from the mountaintops until I die about this…

Over time people just remember W/L record and outcome. But to not take schedule and opponents into account is asinine to me. LSU is not mediocre because we play 7 ranked teams a year usually and go 4-3 or 3-4. Whereas so many teams play 1 or 2. How does that not matter?

LSU this year choked because our schedule was fairly average..but not easy. If you switch LSU and Virginia’s schedule, LSU is where Virginia is and Virginia might not make a bowl.

Indiana is good this year but they were not last year. They played 2 ranked opponents and could barely get a first down. They play LSU’s schedule last year and go 7-5, they wouldn’t have the transfers they do or the support etc etc. A favorable schedule is THE MOST important thing in college football

Honestly think this mentality is what holds LSU back a lot. It's like New Orleans - But Mardi Gras is the best week ever! Doesn't excuse the city being a shithole the rest of the year.

I digress - the point is that it would be nice to be more consistent in the 9-3 to 11-1 range in playoff hunts in between those incredible championship seasons.

LSU should absolutely be in a group with Texas, OU, Bama, & UGA with multiple appearances in the CFP (although OU hasn’t made it in the SEC yet).

But there are very few CFB teams that have made it multiple years - that still doesn’t qualify as mediocre.

& it’s only year 2 of the 12 team playoff. LSU should absolutely be in a 12 team playoff every year

2018 is the only other year we would have made the 12 team format.

Let's just go back to the beginning of the modern era. In reality, it was Dinardo, so 30 years.

Dinardo led a single 10-2 season (out of 5), a 9-win season and 3 straight bowl wins to lead off his career. I'm almost willing to throw out the last season as a heavy outlier and he was a 66.7% winning coach going into the final season.

Saban was exactly 75% at LSU. The knock was "big games" - he was only 3-2 in bowls (1 being a BCS NC win), with particularly embarassing losses to UAB in his opening seasaon, Alabama in Tiger Stadium (2002, sandwiched between SEC title winners), and he infamously lost his last game at LSU on the last play (after he had already quit).

Miles was a man of contrasts. He did have the most sustained success of any LSU head coach. In his 11 full seasons, he logged 7x 10+ win seasons. Bowl games after every full season, respectably 7-4 in those games, with a win and a loss in the BCS NCG, opening his LSU bowl career with a blowout of Miami in the Peach Bowl and finishing by crushing the Longhorns in the Texas Bowl. But there are the puzzlers in there - the poor coordinator choices, the off-the-field antics, etc.

O was O, but we got 2019 out of it.

And Brian Kelly was the classic case of hiring a resume instead of a head coach.

There were great teams in there (with 2019 arguably the greatest anyone has ever seen). Frankly, the talent on 2004 should have performed better. 2005 and 2006 were championship teams in all but on-the-field performance. 2011? 'Nuff said. 2013 should have done more with that offensive talent. 2023 was just a bounce or two away from sneaking in, I think.

But, there is no excuse in a 12-team playoff format for LSU, with the recent history, facilities, budget, fan support, etc., to not make the playoffs 75 to 80 percent of the time. I mean, things happen, but if they happen all the time, they're your fault.

I would have to double check this, but LSU is one of 6 teams to win multiple nattys since 2008.

Of course the national championship is everyone’s goal. However, having a team that is actually competing for it, is what fans want.

LSU has been very mediocre outside of 2019 for the past 12 years. We’ve basically been out of the conversation by the second week of November every year, but 2019.

THIS THIS THIS. It's why I am so amazed that our ranter fans DEMAND that we play for championships every year. Who the frick do they actually think we are? I'm fine with wanting the best for the team, but damn. Some idiot posted earlier that in his opinion, any LSU coach should get two years to get to a natty or he should be fired. I feel so bad for that moron and I'm honestly not sure how he is a productive member of society.

Fact of the matter is that LSU has been a good program over the past 24 years. Before that, we have a history of sucking. And even in the past 24 years, we have never reloaded each year like the greats. We have never finished the season with 1 or fewer losses in back to back seasons. We have never been a dynasty so I do not know why our fans think we are the premier brand in college football.

Remember you O loving dumb fricks that O put Fat Gobbels in charge of NIL for the first two years. Yes, the binder toting ex con in charge of NIL. That's when we got passed up by the likes of Ole Piss. And, if we're honest, we are still getting passed up.

Bama is the only team on that list whose "pedigree" in the modern era, I would put clearly ahead of us.

Some of the best facilities, recruiting grounds and Fans in all of college football and this is all we have to show for it. Its starting to look like the LSU football program before Saban came in and started the turnaround.

Respectfully, you have to also put Georgia ahead of us. Hell, Georgia has every chance of winning it again this year. Like it or not Ohio ST is light years ahead of us, mostly due to decreased competition. We play in the best conference in the game and we consistently lose 3 games a season. It is what it is.

Yes I hope LSU becomes more consistently great in the future but basically any school outside Alabama and Ohio state would trade places with our trophy case since 2000. These are the only schools with at least 3 championships. 17 of those 26 seasons lsu had to deal with saban at bama which results in more losses. Traditionally under Les we bottomed out after losing to bama.
