Can we clean up the university before worrying about the football team?

Not that the two are mutually exclusive when looking for a president, but it’s so sad to see the dislike about what LSU has become. I don’t go to as many games as I used to and have yet to make one this year, but I believe every bit of the awful news I read about crime, admissions standards, etc. LSU has sacrificed values in the name of growth and the almighty dollar.

I want our team to be great, and I want Tiger Stadium to get back to its former atmosphere (honestly, it’s never gonna happen, but a man can dream), and I’d love to have a great coach and leader of men elevating the major sports teams…BUT first and foremost, can we just make the place fun, safe, and a true flagship university?

If you want to clean up the university, you need to worry about the football team.

Few people here actually attended or care about the university itself.

Even suggesting that the university improve academic standards is immediately met with downvotes.

I’ve tried many times over many years.

It’s ingrained into the LSU mindset at this point.

Academics = enemy/bad

This is what Gov Landry should have been focusing on rather than his sound bites and media tour

Is the university itself trashed or just some neighboring areas?

This one... hence why you're getting downvoted. If I had my pick between admissions getting cleaned up and us rising back up the university rankings and a natty give me the first one.

I've been donating to the university/my department for years but haven’t given a dime to TAF or bayou traditions....most people it's the other way around.

having a winning team is awesome.... but there are such bigger fish to fry on campus right now

I attended LSU in large part because we were badass at football. I know that may sound dumb, but I don’t care. So let’s focus on football first.

I knew I would, just didn’t know it would be this bad.

We have fans wanting a certain guy as president because he might have connections to Saban. A solid university president will allow the team the opportunity to succeed. There’s no reason this school can’t mimic what it looked like 20 years ago.

Cleaning up LSU is easy. Selective Admissions and shrink the student size. But the school is addicted to the money so it will take a lot of political will to get it done.

Athletics are the biggest advertising vehicle a university has, no doubt.

But I still think this is backwards.

Before worrying about the football team?
The football team needs to be fixed immediately.

Go look at how much the actual school of Alabama improved during Saban's years. Then tell me why LSU hasn't done the same? The answer lies with BOS.

LSU should 100% clean itself up.

Alabama

"Between 2007 and 2022, enrollment at the University of Alabama has increased by 51%, from 25,580 to 38,645 students.

In that same time, the college more than tripled its endowment, surpassing a record $1 billion in 2022. It also has nearly doubled its physical footprint, adding an engineering quad, the country’s largest Starbucks, and state-of-the-art dorms and recreational facilities, among other massive capital projects."

Academics should be priority one but generally the people pushing that are just pushing woke style agendas. Also, having a good football team shouldn't have any impact on academics.
