Steep vs Sweep chipping

As the season winds down I’ve come to the realization that I have got to do something about my pathetic green side game over the winter. I’m bleeding strokes like a stuck pig inside of 30 yards. I’ve experimented with almost every style of chipping the internet offers this summer(probably why I’ve developed no consistency) and have yet to find a style that really clicks. My local track is predominantly elevated greens so just bumping and running something up only really works from the front. Beginning of the summer I was actually chipping really well and for almost two months was averaging one chip in a round. But like Icarus I flew to close to the sun and now I chip like I have epilepsy.
What are some tips or tricks that have helped y’all’s short games the most. Because if I duff another chip short of the green I’m liable to commit seppuku.
InB4 *hit more GIR.

toe down chipping seems to work best with most lies. It's a steep swing since you can't sweep with the toe down. The ball will come out more dead, so I've learned to release the club at impact. If I want spin, i hold the face and don't let my hands roll over, opposite for no spin.

When I'm struggling pitching and chipping, I like to really focus on the "toe down" chip. Have the toe down and heel slightly off the ground. And most importantly, ACCELERATE through the swing. If you decel, you are dead.

I definitely need to deploy the toe down more when things are going bad. I’ve used it before by getting closer to the ball and having the shaft more vertical but always with a modified putting stroke. I’ve never actually tried to manipulate the ball flight toe down.

Weight 60/40 front, toe down, very little lower body movement, steep swing, ball first.

Firm toe down believer. Helped my chipping yips(toe shank)

Just watch the Kiz chipping video.

Have you experimented with a longer shaft? I use to have chipping woes but bought a set of second hand wedges that are like 1.5' over standard and heavier shafts. I like what they've done for my game.

I have not. I generally go the complete opposite direction and choke way down if I’m up close around the green.

That was what I use to do too, but figured out that was hurting my game with the wedges. Game improved slightly after that but consistency suffered some rounds.
The longer shafts are a recent discovery and have helped a good bit. I choke down on full shots to what feels right for a wedge and then on partial swings, I just treat it like I'm trying to punch a ball out from under a tree with a 7i and let the loft lift the ball up. Has been nice.

I’m up for trying anything. I made a triple on a hole today that I was only 60yds out on after my tee shot.
Bomb, shank, blast across the green, duff, good chip, two putt. Couldn’t decide if I should cry or laugh.

When 60 in gets bad for me I always go up in loft to my 54 or 50 and just sacrifice the spin.
Once I feel better I’ll get back into the 58-60 wedges.
If short sided in rough or tight lie. I always stand up the club and go for steep/hooded toe type of shot.

Who the heck downvoted the Kisner video. That’s a great video.

I know what you mean.
Technically, those are going “down” in loft.
Do you have different lie angles for your wedges? I’ve seen some discussion around whether to go flatter for wedges.
I don’t carry a 60 anymore. 58 is more versatile for me.

Mayo knows his shite
Get steep. Handle up. Forward press, weight forward. No trail knee flex. Get steep.

This is exactly how I chip. Elbows tight, butt and zipper in line, smooth motion, longer for more distance, just gotta let the hands go and trust it.
Loved this video.

I’ve gathered a ton of wedge combos over the last few years and mix them around like a putter. They all have different gaps and bounces, grinds etc. don’t think I’ve ever messed with the lie consciously.
I honestly couldn’t tell you what works best, just like having different looks when things get shitty.
Vokey 9/10 combo with 50/54/58.
MG4 52/56/60
Cleveland RTZ 48/54/60
Have been playing the RTZs the most but they’re kind of bulky. Prefer the TM and Vokey look. The RTZ 60 is a 6 bounce butter knife. It will make me with some of the best shots of my life out of sand and dropping it right on the hole.
Or will totally break me. I’ve got “chili” written on it for a reason.
