Mike Detillier on LSU coaching candidates

Part 2 of 2 of interview with Scott (son of deceased father Don) of DandyDon website
1) Saban should get a call just to make sure the answer is no
2) Kiffin or his agent gets the next call but Kiffin may not be the gypsy (my word BTW) that he once was
3) Lanning from OR won't move due to his Nike deal
4) likes Dillingham at Arizona State
5) Sumerall at Tulane probably would have Auburn high now that Freeze has been fired since he is from that state
6) other candidates not being discussed that much (sleepers) are probably considered just like always
Finally, on the Landry fiasco, just like most that should not have happened, BUT like many of us, he doesn't think it affects much. Mike thinks a candidate or two might have an issue with it but the main factors are what many of us have mentioned: A) recruiting base B) salary C) assistant coaches salaries 4) fan base support/interest. I will throw in a stadium that seats 100K and time and time again is voted the #1 venue for college football by objective media sources

Amazing insight from Mike D (sarcasm)

Dillingham has a Tom Herman feel to me. He’s ok but it’s year 3 of his career as a HC, he’s 35, and he’s 20-15 and currently unranked.
Last year he had a very old senior laded team so who knows if that was an outlier or not.
I just think for LSU, you can do better.

The problem is this year, you probably can't.
This was a bad year for Kelly and Nuss to mail it in.
There is Kiffin, who isn't even as good as people are making him out to be, and who may very well stay in Oxford, and then a huge gap in terms of coaching prospects.

I don’t think he’s a home run hire, but I honestly like Dilly’s energy and think he’s a young coach that will bring some excitement with him.
Wouldn’t be mad if we tried him out on a 3-4 year deal.

Well, I was impatient waiting breathlessly for your take on coaching possibilities (sarcasm).

I agree…MUCH better candidates out there….that would be a lazy hire

Don’t forget Dillingham is also from Arizona and went to Arizona State and said he’s dreamed of coaching ASU since he was a kid and hopes to retire there
I was in Tempe last week and it’s pretty badass. They have 700k alumni so they should do well in NIL and the B12. Went running in a park by campus in 90 degrees and almost tripped 3 times

Realistically, let's say he made it to next year. Who better is going to be available? I understand that there is a glut of openings that will make it a bit harder, but who is making a cosmic leap to be a better candidate next year?
If the concern is that a lot of them are in the playoffs, I get that, but if you are targeting just big, well-known, and established names, it does suck this year.
Ultimately, you are taking a risk at any time, and you must conduct thorough vetting to find the right coach. Woodward never did that because he was lazy as hell and just tried to buy the biggest name he could get.

These guys all requires buyouts.
Little lying Landry said we gotta tighten up. No more stupid deals.

I agree on Kiffin but most of all the candidates mentioned could do just as good or better than Kiffin here and alll could do better than Kelly
They all have potential, its just finding the right one with the most potential and giving them the right resources
Nobody knows how good this hire will be in the next 2 months

I’d love to have Dilly here. I think he’s a hell of a coach with a very bright future
Posted on 11/3/25 at 8:43 am to NotaStarGazer
I have a feeling we end up with Sumrall

I'll take Option 6 for a million, Alex! This is what we're going to get.

You mean like Brian Kelly?

I’ve never followed this moron. Mike Detellier. He’s a JOURNALIST, that’s created this MYTH, about being some Draft Guru. His phrase not mine. People around New Orleans think that this hack has credibility when the rest of the Sports world laughs.

What about Denbrock or Ben Arbuckle? All 3 coaches with a Natty were coordinators or assistants before being given the keys to some big programs, Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson.
