UTSA coach says Sumrall's pregame comments were disrespectful, personal

Sumrall had told reporters in New Orleans earlier in the week that UTSA pumped noise into the Alamodome and that other coaches in the American Conference told him that the speakers aren't turned off during Roadrunners games. Tulane practiced this week with crowd noise and loud music to prepare for the trip to San Antonio.

"I think they may pipe some in through the speakers," Sumrall said. "I don't think it's legal. I don't think anybody's investigating it. We've just got to be ready to deal with it. ... That's helped them create a home-field advantage."

Traylor took issue with those comments after his team's 48-26 victory.

"A coach that said we basically cheated the last six years, which disrespects everything we've done the last six years, in my opinion," Traylor said.

UTSA improved to 22-0 in regular-season conference home games under Traylor.

Traylor said Sumrall's comments seemed "a little more personal."

"I just told my guys, 'Man, we're already living in his head,'" he said. "I wish I worked for a boss that let me do all those things [with noise]. Our crowd's loud, and our band's loud."

Traylor said he likes Sumrall but thinks the comments even made UTSA's band cautious about playing music during Thursday's game.

"Our band director was scared to death to play with the band," he said. "It's probably one of the main reasons we haven't lost a game here. Those dudes rock every time we're here."

I can see why the other coach might take offense to this. Sumrall seems unsure if they are, but suggests they might be doing something illegal.

I'm interested to know if they were or not. Either way I think Sumrall should prepare his team, but maybe not accuse another team of potentially cheating.

A number of SEC teams violate the sound rules routinely.

Mississippi State with the cow bells.

UGA, USCe & TN all routinely pipe in noise after 15 seconds just off the top of my head.

I hope Tulane continues to lose because I don't want Sumrall anywhere near the LSU program. He doesn't seem like he can handle the pressure.

Traylor and Sumrall will be the Harbaugh/Carroll of the SEC next year when they're both coaching in the league.

Man, the American has the cattiest bunch of coaches ive seen in a while. Between Traylor, Sumrall, Golesh and the North Texas coach we've just got a conference full of bitch made coaches. Not a big fan of Silverfield but at least he doesnt get involved in this kinda nonsense.

They absolutely pipe in crowd noise. If you go to a game there it is obvious, almost to the point of being funny, because the person running it isn’t smart enough to dial it back at appropriate times.

I went and watched Louisiana Tech get their doors blown off against UTSA in San Antonio a few years ago and in the fourth quarter with Tech down four or five scores, the third down “noise” was as loud as the first quarter

Hmm. Beating Tulane checks out. Next game at home vs East Carolina, who lost at home to Tulane. Yep, East Carolina will end this streak Nov 22
