With Woodward out and “Landry” (or appointee) handling things, the path forward willl have a notice able change. No more Big Game hunting. Fiscal issues appear to be an issue. We’re going small ball.

We’ll be looking for a guy with a chip on the shoulder looking to prove himself. Kinda the direction that Florida went in the hire of Napier. Outside the “club” of top talent and fiscally friendly.

I’d prefer the big game approach as it keeps the program elevated and relevant. I also think our program needs some more building so big name helps bring in those kinds of supporters.

Nonetheless, I think a guy like Sumral or maybe Joey McGuire or even Frank Wilson makes more sense under the current environment.

Taking a top 5 job and hiring like its a mid tier job... Just risks for no reason

Have you heard about Texas Tech’s NIL spending? They’re playing a different game than the rest of their league. Don’t think he’d walk away from that, don’t know if he’s that good of a coach anyway because of that.

Maybe not. Someone like that though who wants to prove something on bigger stage.

Whether you hire a top sitting P4 coach, an up-and-coming G5 coach, or a coordinator, they all end up getting fired around 80% of the time. Hiring a P4 coach wins the press conference (Kelly), but doesn't really increase a schools odds of the hire being successful.

actually, when you have billionaires cutting checks to pay off failed coaches, it would seem that fiscal issues do not appear to be an issue for LSU at all

Big game hunting doesn’t always work. We need a hungry coach could be a big name or not. NIL transfer portal has changed everything. Some big name coaches are not meant for this era. GM May be more important than the coach

Exactly - why do people see us starting to do the Florida strategy and think that it’ll somehow end differently for us than it did for the Gators?

And Taxpayers have never had to pay a buyout so Landry making issues where they don’t exist. He wanted to make an BS case on Woodward.

any legit coach is going to want and likely get a buyout provision

I watch them all

Sumral fits the Landry model of low or no buyouts.

And what’s gonna happen if he wins some games and some other school comes with a big offer

Well as per Landry, we let him go if he demands a lot of money. We ain’t gonna do like Woodward did.

I find it hilarious that Tulane fans are flat out saying, "you don't want him" while LSU fans keep bringing him up.
