Optics. They did it for their radical leftist base. I pray they get trounced in NJ and everywhere else across this land until they take accountability for the errors in their ways. Probably wishful thinking, but one can dream

They might have let federal employees (read: unions) go without paychecks for another month, but they aren't going to let welfare recipients go a full month without their programs. The flock away from the Democratic Party would be historic.

quote:The exposure of D party priorities has been fascinating to watch. Anyone paying attention already knew all of this, but for it to be brazenly out in the open is crazy. The Republicans should be running ads over and over in battleground states showing that the D party cares more about benefits for illegal immigrants than they do for the welfare of actual citizens and they've shown that repeatedly through their actions.

They cut off their own people from EBT and that's a good thing? lulz

That's been my guess, they think an angry base wins them elections.
They want to claim the nation is against Trump, based on two very blue states.

I've told this to a few people who have asked me about the shutdown. It makes the most sense for Democrats because if they cave before Tuesday a large contingent of their supporters will not turn out to vote. They cannot be seen as giving Trump a win before election day.

Angry (D)s go vote to install their weak candidates. Emotions drive a (D). They want some win in the news cycle to take momentum from DJT wins. The MSM will comply.

Them being responsible for their base not getting SNAP is a big win for Trump, IMHO.
Once the election is over, who is to say that a clean bill is still on the table?

There's waaaaaaay too many handouts to far too many people and it isn't economically sustainable without either (a) the country goes bankrupt, or (b) massive tax increases.

Y'all are so narrow-sighted sometimes.
The same people needing those handouts and voting D year-after-year-after-year will be the same people that will blame everything on R.
They will never admit that they are merely expendable cannon fodder for the Democrats. And they will never stop voting D when they can remain victims of the Republicans instead of useful idiots of the Democrats.

A lot of people are waking up to voting left just makes them pawns in the chess game for power.

Performative politics at its worst!

Pay attention to Chicago. Progressive (lack of) immigration enforcement is doing more pro-GOP work than the sum of all RNC outreach programs in the city for the last 100 years.

Republicans will cave, the public blames the GOP for the shutdown.

Even if they hold onto NJ and win in VA, it’s not going to be big numbers, and a midterm Blue Wave looks unlikely. There’s no widespread outrage about this shutdown.

No they don’t. The GOP has actually gone up by 2 points, and the Dems are still in the hole.
