I've posted this a few times in other threads, but starting it as a separate thread given the news.

The truth about Woodward is he succeeded in some areas but failed in others.

He found Jay Johnson, but only after the BOS rejected his pursuit of O'Sullivan for off field issues.

He hired Kim Mulkey, but her situation at Baylor was stale. She also wanted to be closer to her family here. I think a baseline competent AD could have accomplished that hire

Jay Clark was right in his lap for the gym team.

He botched the Will Wade situation. I know people will reply to this saying he only fired Wade to save football, but there is no evidence that the NCAA was going to punish both sports. Heck, the NCAA didn't even really ban Wade from basketball like everyone thought. And Matt McMahon certainly isn't the answer post-Wade.

And finally, the crown jewel. The hire that every AD is judged upon: the football coach. He financially tied LSU to one of the worst contracts in the history of the school, and he went down with that ship. That's part of the job.

Could this have all been handled better by the governor and the board? Yes. But the most important point is the one everyone seems to be missing.

LSU was successful before Scott Woodward, and LSU will be successful after Scott Woodward.

You can appreciate what Woodward accomplished here, but pretending that his success doesn't come with context or that he's some sort of transcendent administrator because he can raise money for the most popular school in the state is overwrought.

I’m less concerned about Woodward being gone. I’m more concerned about the circus act surrounding his departure and what that portends for the future of LSU.

If we follow up with a good AD hire, we'll look back at the melt on here and laugh.

If we whiff the hire, it could be the beginning of a rough stretch for the athletic department.

This is a rational take and basically where I’m at with Woodward’s legacy.

What’s done is done and all we can do now is go forward.

How about the fundraising? This dude knew how to get money to pay for all of this shite. I sort of want him as that but not get the final say on football.

You are missing the point, damn near everyone on TD is missing the point. Once a politician gets involved in the athletic department, it's over. No decent people will get near LSU now.

Totally agree! Landry needs to back off or this is going to go south fast.

This is kinda random but does anyone else feel like the media frenzy and overwhelming attention our current situation has gotten would only happen at LSU?

Idk why but I feel like if this same thing happened at Florida, UGA, USC etc it wouldn’t be nearly this big of a deal. Seems like national pundits are coming out the woodworks to get their shot in.

I may be dead wrong but feel like the national media loves piling on us when we’re down. Am I being a big bitch or is their some validity to that?

sure, can accept a mistake, but guaranteed contract was a massive failure.

I feel the same way. I only wish we as an LSU family would discuss matters behind closed doors. Maybe one day you will be the LSU AD

I agree its an embarrassing circus. Didnt vote for Landry and I bet i don't next time either.

That being said, weather the storm. This is all happening very suddenly. We lost on Saturday. BK was fired Sunday. Monday and Tuesday people digested that. Just yesterday the gov went nuts. Today it went national and the AD resigned. OK. 5 days it took to completely flip this shite upside down. Theres not much left to do now other than rebuild. We wont announce a hire until the last week of Nov, first week of Dec. Theres plenty of time for the news cycle to move on and us find a quality hc.

Probably the most reasonable take I’ve read since the news broke. Have an upvote

Sadly, it's likely too late. Think of a young Saban at Mich St, there is this enticing job at a school with a lot of great recruits available. But the downside is that his job is at the whim of a silly little politician. Major Pass.

Think this is all dependent upon the new AD. If he steps up, grabs the reigns and let’s coaching candidates know he’s in charge and Landry is just a fly they have to swat away from time to time, then yeah we’ll be in a good spot. Can’t be weak and show the country we’re in control and better off than before

Do you really think Johnson would leave the best program to coach baseball for in America because his boss got fired. I've never once ever in my life wanted to quit my job because my boss got fired. Get real lol

I mean it’s kind of his job to know that. And once he’s here to make sure he’s doing it.
