Thought this link listening to Andrew Whitworth was thought provoking. He suggests a subcommittee of a handful of LSU diehard, well respected Ex-NFL players should interview and provide feedback in the hiring process.

This would probably result in Sheppard. Super high risk/high reward. I'm fine with 1 or 2 former players who understand X's and O's very well being a part of the process. I think that may help with finding a good up and coming coordinator in the interview process. But I wouldn't want a committee of nothing but former LSU players

That sounds like a good way to hire a 30-something former player that's never coached anything past high school.

Yea if former players had a say Joe Brady and Kelvin Sheppard would be the top 2 choices. Those have been the two names I’ve heard former players say they want in interviews when asked who would be their pick for the next head coach. Their coming from the mindset of wanting someone whose younger, energetic, a leader, and understands the pride that wearing a purple and gold jersey carries in the state

Question:
What are the pros and cons to allowing former players access to the team/facilities?
Apparently BK made them make appointments while O welcomed them.

I think that's a horrible idea.
Do yall remembering being players? The way you look at coaches is vastly different than an outsider's perspective.
A lot of former players, while very well respected, would not look at a coaching search without an insane amount of bias.
It's nothing against them, it's just a different skillset than an AD.

That’s how we ended up with Mike Archer. Most athletes aren’t very smart and make decisions based on emotions.

Venables
Kiffin
Sarc
Elko
James Franklin
For example were hired using a search firm.
And a whole bunch of other big and small schools used a search firm.
The same search firm.

Why not just hire a firm of executive headhunters that specializes in Athletic Administrative hires. Take the Politicians, Alumni, and ex-players out of it. These factional groups associated with the University usually cause more infighting than finding the best possible candidate

Been saying this all week. LSUs large number of recent or current NFL players is a great resource to tap.
Collectively, these players can inform the process and help decision makers separate traits that really matter versus media or agent-driven narratives.
Way too many "can't miss" names in recent-year coaching searches who have failed miserably to not utilize this approach, which is a clear comparative advantage over all but a few programs at present.

This process is how you end up with nothing but “Louisiana” guys. People outside of this state know how to win. Go with the best..
A lot of people are trying to bring back the good ole boy network that existed for a long time here.

I love our former players but after the Aggie game in 2015 the players wanted to retain Miles. After the Aggie game in 2016 the players wanted O to get the job. During Burrow's heisman speech he wanted O to get a lifetime contract. Players don't make the best decisions regarding Coaches.
Now I do think that a few players mixed with other individuals with different backgrounds in sports should be on the committee. But not just players. shite I would put Saban on the committee, a few ex-players, Austin Thomas our GM, and maybe someone like Herb Vincent or something like that. I will say though I would not put RC anywhere near that committee.
