Ross Bjork extended Jimbo in 2021,

Secondly, Woodward’s primary responsibility is to raise money and keep LSU athletics in the black/profitable. This, he has done well.

criticize his football hire/basketball hire and the contracts. That’s fair game. However, those who want Kiffin, when you look at what it will take to get him, the contract doesn’t look so bad. Kiffin makes 9 mil. He isn’t coming for 10 and no guaranteed money/years.

Therefore, if you have to fire him for not beating bama and not making the playoff, please don’t complain about the contract. You aren’t getting a name coach for a lesser deal than Kelly had.

I’m no woodward apologist or lane kiffin groupe. I don’t even want kiffin because of what it will take to get him. I see him as about what we already had. I’m just stating objective facts.

Woodward targeted Jimbo as the coach for A&M. He had all the resources needed to get his guy. Jimbo was his guy. Was the extension by next AD on Jimbo? Sure but Scott brought Mr. Fat Cheeks to A&M. Same thing with Brian Kelly. Scott went whale hunting and he brought back Kelly. Scott did well with Jay Johnson (beyond well) and he hit up Mulkey when Baylor pissed her off. But Mulkey ain't leading football. The 800 gorilla for LSU athletics in football and Scott fired O to go after his guy. He made a terrible hire. The contract game when hiring this level of coach is the game, no real way to change it. If you play in those waters, then there are risks/rewards that can't be avoided. Woodward missed big time and that he owns.

Are you saying this as though it's a negative mark against Woodward?

The original contract that he drew up still had a large buyout WITH NO OFFSET - meaning Jimbo could get a new coaching job and still must get paid in full by A&M. Also If Jimbo got fired under his original deal the buyout still would have been like $45M.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what's true or not. Just what people think is true.

Woodward signed him to the first insane deal, which was guaranteed.

This dishonest argument that the 2nd contract is all that matters is crazy

Still don’t care. He hired BK and is responsible for his ridiculous contract.

So the AD extending the contract of a NC coach was a bad move. I sure hope this is sarcasm

I don't get the defense of an AD like Woody.

He's whiffed on his FB HC hires. I don't care that he didn't extend Jimbo. He hired Jimbo initially and Jimbo didn't perform. He came to LSU and rolled with the same binder when he got Burger King.

What are we suppose to do, let him try again??? That's ludicrous. I don't like politics meshing with athletics, but I appreciate the governor calling out Woody for his BS coaching hires.

It's a constraint, a parameter. But I don't think we dismiss such glaring failures with, 'we're still in the black.'

Stop repeating Moscona’s talking points!
Yes Bjork extended Jimbo, but he extended him by 4 years and bumped him from $7.5million/yr to $9million/yr.

None of that changes the fact that Scott made a shitty hire and gave him the initial 10-years $75million FULLY GUARANTEED contract!

Woodward shite the bed at aTm and LSU and there’s no talking around that!

Well saying that Woodward was the cause for the 75 million buyout is also a dishonest argument.

And I am a person that doesn't care whether Woodward is retained or not.

In 2017 After Jimbo went 6-6 at Fla st. He was made the highest paid coach and his buyout was still 100% of his contract. That contract was made by Woodward. However, Bjork did extend him after 2020 but the floodgates were open before that. Woodward is getting fired because of his Kelly hire, his handling of the Men’s basketball program and his lack of foresight on all things NIL. LSU was caught off guard by NIL. While schools like Ole Miss thrived. Kim and Jay were great hires! Unfortunately football is king here. In the SEC AD’s get one football hire and sometimes one basketball hire. Both of those hires have been a complete disaster.

I don’t give a shite one way or the other about Woodward. I’m not advocating for Woodward.

I’m pointing out that those running around saying he is responsible for the two largest buy outs are DISHONEST.

Woodward gave Jimbo the first contract that was also absurd at the time. You can thank Woodward for screwing up the market for everyone with that absurd contract if $75 million guaranteed.
