So my 8 year old Huskie Australian Shepherd mix started peeing in the house a few weeks ago after I had a friend watch him for a weekend while I was out of town. Not sure if him getting into cat food would have something to do with it. But I put a stop to it about 2 weeks ago and now today I left the house for maybe and hour and he pissed all over ny TV stand. Its trashed and ill probably toss it now.

His piss smell absolutely rancid. Its dark yellow and the stink clings to everything. I dont know why this is happening. Hes never done this before and im at my wits end with this. Its disgusting.

Don't female dogs get UTIs more than male?

You should take your dog to the veterinarian immediately, as a sudden change in urination combined with strong, rancid urine can signal a serious medical problem. The issue may be linked to eating cat food due to its high protein and fat content, but a vet must diagnose the exact cause.

Go to your vet.

I'm not trying to scare you, and it may be nothing, but given the sudden incontinence, the age (8 years old is not a spring chicken in dog years), and the dark smelly urine, your dog may be in early renal failure, or at the very least, have renal disease. The earlier you get his kidneys checked the better. Kidney issues in dogs is an even worse prognosis than in humans. The earlier you can do something, the better. My pup died at 8 years old from renal failure, and it progressed very quickly because I had no idea and sparse internet access to research symptoms to even know (we're talking blackberry phone time era).

My most prized hound and best friend died of renal failure. Quickly. Go to the vet ASAP.

Yes, but...

Just like breast cancer in human males it does happen.

It is obviously a renal issue and could be something relatively benign or not. Don't overstress until you get them to the vet. I would probably take one of mine to a 24hr clinic if the urine is as bad as you describe. Costs more but the early medical intervention could have large implications in the prognosis.

My last dog started doing that and he ended up diagnosed with liver cancer. Definitely follow what others said and go to vet ASAP.

Hoping you have good vet results.

Our 14 year old beagle started peeing on the floor over a year ago. Then she could hardly stand. My wife constantly brought her to the vet for antibiotics. The smell of the urind got worse and worse. She died a couple of weeks ago. We just watched where we stepped and cleaned it up. She jus couldn't help herself and we didn't have the heart to put her down. Good luck!

Have you dog’s blood sugar checked, mine started doing that after 10 years and I noticed her water bowl being almost empty every morning as well.

Use an “enzyme cleaner” like Nature’s Miracle spray for dog urine. It really works.

Mine started doing that and combined with a few other issues, he was diagnosed with Cushings around this same age of 8.
