I get that it looks bad on the surface, but what was the substantial takeaway?

All the governor effectively did today was confirm that Woodward is effectively going to be fired by the next president and that the Board of Supervisors is going to pick the next coach? So what exactly was changed by his comments today? Did we not already know this was how things were shaping up?

We can agree it's a bad look the way he handled it, but if the new president is already hired or close to being hired, the coaching candidates might be shown stability behind the scenes that the public isn't seeing right now.

This issue will be resolved in 6 days when the president is elected. We'll have more stability than most think

Landry is one of those idiots that doesn't know the importance of strategic silence. Sometimes it's best just to shut the frick up.

I like the transparency, now you don't have to question if Woodward did the hiring or if it was his guy or blah blah blah

It was a pointless ego inflating comment by Landry. He should stick to hunting trips with his master, Gordon McKernan.

Wouldn't be surprised if none of that turns out to be true. Regardless, it doesn’t make the LSU job look anymore attractive.

He wants to be Trump so bad.

Because it’s going to make the coaching search a shitshow. You have people on the BOS that already think athletics gets too much. Then you have the vast majority of the pay for the next coach actually coming from TAF which the BOS does not control.

And who gets held accountable if the next coach doesn’t work out? For the next coach does he even need to care what the AD thinks about him?

You could have a coach that the BOS wants that TAF may push back on and not want to pay (since TAF is a private non-profit). The BOS can’t come off $10-$12MM to pay a coach

The prior system of the athletic department finding the coach, TAF figuring out the pay situation, and then the BOS approving the hire worked because it gave levels of accountability.

Hiring an elite HC for a football program does not admit to transparency, and for good reason.
Its stupid to think this is the environment for that.

No Sexton clients are coming here, guess who represents all the quality coaches?

Who is the McNeese football coach?

Not only that, but by clarifying that we are going to have a committee that reports directly to the BOS to conduct the search, he now opens up this entire process to the public.

Any committee that reports to the BOS, by law, must have all of their meetings open to the public. So now he'll have to walk back half of what he said because he's too stupid.

That's what we're dealing with here at the top. He is that stupid. He said that "he's involved with the tax payer is involved" well I've got some news for you Jeff, the taxpayer is not involved in this at all.

I can't believe this state let the O&G lobby buy this guy. Just no pushback at all. Maddening.

You already had people like Urban Meyer publicly criticizing the Governor’s involvement in firing BK, saying they wouldn’t touch it. Yes, you and I understand there’s technically no “president,” but most people don’t. Now Landry makes this statement, and it’s pouring gasoline on a tiny fire and it was tiny because the main focus had been on Kelly screwing things up. Now we’ve got full-blown politics running LSU. Terrible look.

But you are. Saying it's a bad look is one thing but the melt on this board over the governor's comments that do not change LSU's reality before the comments were made is silly

He said the BOS would form a committee. That could be the verge and the GM could be the committee is how I took it. I don’t think he was necessarily saying the BOS would be picking the coach. They are just deciding who is picking the coach

Funniest part about him is the accent isn't even real. If you talk to him without the cameras rolling he's got a slight cajun twang but nothing comes close to how he presents on camera.

He decried the exact contract model needed to get a big name to LSU, so now we’re going to be saddled with small game picks.
