Fit, age, personality, local or sec ties, none of it matters. The only thing that matters is someone who will work their arse off to win. Saban was a horrible fit on paper and he turned out to be okay. We aren’t hiring a coach for ten years, they don’t last that long anymore. Go get a winner who will recruit, own the portal and have us contending next season.

Exactly.

I want a coach who wants to run through a wall for LSU. Someone who will have Death Valley rocking.

And … that’s all a helluva lot easier said than done.

A Jay Johnson type coach is 100% right. Don’t give a wink where he’s from but comes in fully understanding that championship teams are expected and works tirelessly to make it happen.

Exactly, a lot of coaches became big names after they coached at LSU so it is a privilege to coach at LSU.

Hanny said today we’ve had one coach last longer than 6 years here since 1980 and that was Les Miles. The 10 year plan needs to be canned.

BK was a good fit when won the west in his first season

Lose 3 of 4 games while being highly ranked? Terrible fit

Hanny is right. Winning = good fit

There is no recruiting anymore. Evaluate hundreds of players. Get the best ones you can afford.

To be honest, those teams in the late 80s/90after were bad, were bad with the ball exception of 96-97. Saban is the only one that left on his own. Who knows how long he would have stayed if he would have not taken the Miami job. The other coaches outside of Miles were eventually fired for poor performance year 4/5. So not a good comparison.

Coach would run through a wall for lsu. Only problem is that he kept having blondes in front of the wall.

Does the 11 plus win season includes bowl games?

He really did. "Ask Jay Johnson how many times he stepped foot in Louisiana before he got hired, how's that working out?"

Even Les at first was a strange fit on paper. The pool of candidates was pretty shallow thanks to Sabes leaving on Christmas Day, but he hit the ground running by keeping Jimbo and a few other staff holdovers, made a great DC hire in Pelini 1.0, flipped Perrilloux, got Whitworth and a couple other rising seniors to return and recruited hard. He got a bit lazy after the first natty but made the corrections and nearly got back on top before going full buffoon.

You just need to grind in those early days on the job and surround yourself with other grinders who have that hunger.
