Guys I’m in the market for a new knife sharpener. It will be used for hunting and pocket knives. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Really not interested in the drag type that eat the metal off a blade. TIA

Spyderco brand triangle sharpener.
Kind of pricey now but well worth it.

Work Sharp precision elite with the diamond stones or a lansky with the diamond
ETA: I also have the Work Sharp Ken Onion but mainly use it when I'm sharpening all the kitchen knives. It's noisy so it isn't as relaxing as using the Precision Elite.

Work Sharp Precision Adjust Elite. $130 @ Bass Pro. Super easy, and the leather hone makes it pop.

It took me 40 years to understand it, but a simple bisurface stone.
Toss in a pitch of water for a few minutes. Set on towel. 10-15 passes each side on rough. 10-15 passes on smooth. 5-10 passes on cheap ceramic bar hone.
Can take a dull to a shaver in 5 minutes or so.
Haven't quite gotten to scalpel sharp yet. Might take another 20 years

Oh yeah. Takes it from cutting a few hairs to straight up popping them off. I bought a tabletop strop and can usually get a knife from kind of sharp back to shaving in a few minutes with it.

Worksharp field sharpener is great. Easy to throw in the bag for a trip too.

You can look at offerings from wicked edge too. They may cost more but you can sharpen both sides at once without having to flip the knife around.

I've tried them all. The quickest, and most user friendly set up to getting your knives and broadheads razor sharp is to buy a buffer wheel from harbor freight and swap the buffers with the Razor Sharp edgemaking system (grit and polishing wheel)

Lansky with 5 different grade of stones will make any knife razor sharp in 5 minutes.

I like that one, new to me. Similar to Lansky but seems more user friendly. I loved my lansky kit but it’s not quick. Lost it got a Gatco kit, copy of lansky and still have it.
Got a Warthog V-sharp A4 to speed things up last season and it’s out of adjustment since coming out the box so I put it aside. Need to adjust it or get rid of it. I’ve seen them work well but won’t put as good or an edge as a Lansky style sharpener.
I gave up free handing with a stone. Could never nail it.

A regular worksharp with the 20* guide is the best combination of simple effective affordable if you're like most of us and incapable of sharpening a knife like an old mule skinner.
It will also help you figure out what you're doing wrong with every other basic sharpener. They are all harder than knife steel and will all sharpen a blade. Only as effective as the operator though.

I know people who use a lot of electric devices and wear their knives down too quickly.
I used a Lansky, but the stones wore unevenly, so I bought a Smith sharpening system. Inexpensive. Works well. Should last a long time without abusing my knives.
I also glued some leather on a board and rub polishing rouge for a strop. That brings a good cutting edge to a very good edge. Tightly rolled newspaper can also be used to hone the final cutting edge.
I also have a low speed grinder for special tools - such as lathe tools.
I have used a belt sander to make knives and tools from repurposed things or newly forged items.
Looked at a Work Sharp, but never ordered one. Seemed a bit more than needed for my purposes.

Work Sharp Professional Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener.
$250 on Amazon
Have had mine for about 1 1/2 years now. Once you get the edges set it takes about 10 minutes to resharpen. It will not "eat" the knife. I've gotten to where I don't even bother with the leather strop any more. I basically use 2 stones, (once you get the edges set) 800 grit and the ceramic. I can easily get hair shaving results. The key is to use a little water on your stones.
No regrets
