One thing I hadn’t considered: BK filling a lower tier SEC vacancy

I DO NOT THINK THIS WILL HAPPEN but would sure be interesting to see BK coach at, say, Arkansas or Ole Miss (if Kiffin bolts) in the coming years. Imagine the media frenzy when we play those 2 every year…(Arkansas is in our permanent opponents, right? Can’t remember for sure).

Even if this did happen, firing him was the right decision - provided whomever we hire beats his arse consistently.

He is going to be extremely hard to put into a head coaching position in the near term with the baggage that comes along with him. Every person saw what we did during the game Saturday night. A man at a loss for what was occurring to him after not making adjustments week in week out.

I do not think he coaches football again.

What is more likely is that he goes to a bottom feeder in the ACC/Big 12. I don't think he will stoop to G5 but I don't see the SEC or B10 touching him unless they are just out of options. I do think Arky should consider him or Franklin as a bridge.

Yeah, that’s a possibility if he wants to coach. It would be a big name hire that they could sell the fanbase. I can’t see BK taking some low tier school job with no resources after ND and LSU. But his stock couldn’t be any lower at the moment.

A school like Wisconsin may take a flyer on him. I think he’s done, at least for a year or two.. he will have to let the press cool off on him for a little to come back out of the shadows.

Any SEC team desperate enough to hire him isn’t going to be relevant anytime soon.

yeah, UCLA is supposedly interested as well because of the LSU offset from BK’S buyout

anyone can pay BK $5mm and the offset brings him to $9.5mm with the rest of the HC money going to assistants and players

Lower tier Big 10 school is a better fit.

Jeopardy moment:

"I'll take 'Rarer than Hen's Teeth' for $500.“

"The only two head football coaches, who had previously been fired from a major college program as a head coach, who then came back and won a national title with another major university."

"Who are Lou Holtz and Ed Oregon?"

Correct, for $500.

Arkansas and Kelly would be oil and water. If UW or MSU make a move that would be perfect, or an upper tier MAC job. If Campbell finally decided to leave ISU, or ironically Drinkwitz left Mizzou, those might be a maybe.

Maybe he could take the Tulane job when their coach gets hired away. His arrogance would fit right in with the New Orleans upper-crust twits that populate that school. Plus he's in walking distance to Bourbon Street.

People will look at his career record and see that it's pretty damn good. Saturday night was a loss to the #3 team by the #20 team. To the casual observer, a blowout isn't a surprise. They're also going to look at a guy being fired mid season with a winning record and see him as a victim of unhinged fans with unreasonable expectations.

I'm not defending Kelly here, but people nationwide don't know all the day to day stuff like we do. From a macro view, Kelly looks like a good coach who wasn't a good fit. To a lot of teams, he'll look better than the guy they just fired. If he wants to coach again, somebody will hire him. Worse coaches than he is have been given second, third and fourth chances.

I don’t see how anyone hires him in the very near future, and would expect he at least takes a year off if for no other reason than to let people forget what they just saw.

Saturday night was more than just an asswhipping, it exposed his entire approach to the position as dated and flawed. Dude was trying to be 2015 Mark Richt in an unprecedented era of parody where everyone has at least a few dudes who can punish you if there’s a hole in your game plan.

What makes “upper tier” status? Where are we right now?

I could see him at Penn State or VT.
