My big concern with going after kiffin

Let’s say hypothetically kiffin does want the job: do we really wanna tie another big money 6 plus year contract to a coach ? Kiffin absolutely will command the type of money we paid Brian Kelly when we offered him. I don’t think kiffin is as much of a slam dunk as some folks think. He’s done very good at ole Miss but also heavily underachieved with that loaded roster last year.
He was a disaster at USC. He’s yet to even make a playoff game. I jus don’t want us to make the same mistake we made with Brian Kelly and lazily throw a fat contract at a big name and tie ourselves to that guy that’s an massive risk if that person doesn’t pan out kiffin has a shaky record against top teams.
The younger up and comer option is significantly cheaper and also comes with huge upside if they end up being a hit

Kiffin-All hat, no cattle.
Yet... he could be the real deal or a flashy coach

I believe it'd have to be an evergreen clause, which is an automatic extension when a certain milestone is reached.
If you could somehow work out 6 years with an evergreen for every playoff appearance I think that'd work

Sure…if I am not mistaken, he is already making that much. We would have to buy out his existing contract as well as give him one at least that good….

LSU needs to be hanging 40pts + on teams
Lane Train can do that. Even Saban adjusted to high scoring offense
Give him 5yrs 50mil

The thing I like about Kiffin is the idea of hiring a tactician to lock down one side of the ball & his age.
But at the same time, that’s not working out so hot for USCw & Riley, so… what the frick do I know?

Who cares? How much of his salary are you paying?

I'm not sure winning 65% of his games under heavy NCAA sanctions qualifies as a "disaster".

Barring a huge upset in November, he will this year.

Think we are well past the saving money stage

I like Lane. But, as OMiss is gonna make the CFP, when will he actually decide whether to take our job or UF's job? If he waits til after January 1 to decide, some school is gonna be left at the altar.

Exactly. OP why do you care? You’re not losing money on it.

That's a pipe dream. Sexton's fat arse isn't even returning your calls with that offer.

I don’t think you can possibly get more proven than Lane Kiffin. Did everyone just forget ole miss was arse for six decades prior to Lane? Besides two hugh freeze seasons and their 2003 team Ole Miss has been dead for decades.
I worry the timing isn’t aligned with Lane leaving but I’m certainly not concerned about him being the #1 choice.

Maybe
I personally don’t think Kiffin is the right move (and I may very well be wrong there), but IF he is the move they want you can absolutely create Plan B/C/D if what you say turns out to be true. You can prepare yourself with a contingency plan if that happens.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Florida is going to wait for him. I think they'll go for Drinkwitz or Fisch, and one of them will be announced shortly after the regular season ends.

See? Here’s where all the Stupid comes out. These people who think we are going to get Kiffin on some kind of bargain-basement incentive-based deal.
Kiffin is going to cost you at least 13M a year. If that’s what you want fine, but you’re not going to have it both ways.
Of course then there are the idiots with their “let’s just sign the next Nick Saban on the cheap.” Yeah right. Finding “the next Nick Saban” is a lot easier said than done.

It's what he's on now at Ole Miss.
I'd anticipate us offering another long term contract, that wasn't a prediction on what we'd do, moreso what makes more sense.

I dont think we do either. My issue with Lane is Im not so sure ill be ready every offseason to wonder if my HC is gonna leave or stay. A few sub par seasons and that shite will wear thin quick.

Better be Fisch if its between those two. I have no issue with bringing him home.
