Do we have to hire someone quick?

I would say yes. If we don’t, we will lose a lot of players to the transfer portal and lose out on the early signing day forthe 2026 recruits.
If we wait for the season to end, and or playoffs to end, we will lose a lot of players and recruits

Hiring best coach >> single recruiting class

Can’t settle just because of one recruiting class. If u know who your guy really is u do the best u can in recruiting and wait on him otherwise it could set u back for years if u settle and he doesn’t work out

We do not have to hire some real body fast different age now. It's not like it used to be. You can always get players through the transfer portal with a big name coach orr a middle tier coach. It's not like it used to be. We do not have to have a fast hire. It is time to do due diligence. Take your time. Make sure you get somebody that can fit the program. Like Jacob Hester said this morning he would be more than happy to sit in on one of the interviews. Even maybe if it is with an agent to just gauge the real dedication of that potential coach, we do not have to hurry this up

What’s your source on this?

Also remember players can transfer. So we may get someone who isn't too afraid of the coaching change because they can just leave in their 2nd year the new coach sucks.

remember we are also in a hiring competition with penn state and UF.

The portal window (to enter) is Jan 2nd - 16th. There is no spring window. That means LSU needs to have a HC by, at least, late December, to try to mitigate current players entering the portal. It's not unreasonable to think guys would enter the portal if they aren't sure who their HC will be. You have to give the new HC a reasonable chance to try to retain/add new players.

I would say be patient with the process, if they in a hurry to hire someone then we end up with a BK or a coach O. You get in a hurry and you bound to mess up JMHO. Get the right coach and the players will come.

Neither of those schools are LSU.

The championship game is January 19th. The deadline to enter the portal is January 16th. There is no "spring" portal. If LSU doesn't have a coach by the time the portal closes, then logic would suggest most of LSU's in demand players would have entered before 1/16 to preserve their opportunity to go elsewhere given they wouldn't know who their next HC/staff would be.
If LSU waits until after the CFP ends then they are at a severe risk of having a lot of their own players leave and most of the top available transfers signing elsewhere before the new HC even lands in BR.

I mean yeah if they are planning on taking the coach of one of the teams playing in the national championship. I bet that’s not the case though.

Unfortunately I think we are going to get into a bidding war on at least one coach that's in the playoffs and the timing of the early signing period kind of sucks but luckily there is a couple portal windows that will let the coach bring in some guys. That said next year will probably be a wash regardless who we get and they will probably go all out in the portal the following year especially if everyone is excited about the hire.

The head coach was fired. That means guys can enter the portal now if they want.
I think it’s a foregone conclusion that we are going to have guys hit the portal. Ideally you get someone hired in time to recruit some of those guys to stay. The bigger issue though (IMO) is replacing losses. With just one portal window, you get one shot to sign your 2026 roster. And anyone who plans to enroll in the spring will be making a quick decision.
The “front office” setup with Austin Thomas and staff may help to mitigate this to some extent.. will be interesting to see how that all plays out.

I think it depends on how deep your guy goes into the post season. Historically many coaches haven’t publicly participated in interviews and hiring processes while their team still has a season going on (regular bowl games not withstanding).

I’d much rather get the right guy if it takes until February. One recruiting class is not nearly as important as getting the right coach
