For whatever reason, Lane seems almost too obvious to me.

I would certainly be happy if he was hired here, but something about how just obvious it is gives me pause.
Anyone else have that feeling?

I agree. Not sure why but I agree it makes total sense. The only issue is Ole Miss’ impending playoff run. Fortunately I don’t see the Rebs making it past week 2.
The reason I think Lane is the guy are his comments before their game against us where he bemoaned the fact that they got outbid for our transfer DBs. I think Lane envies the resources LSU has.

When they hired Kelly his name had not even been mentioned for the job. Came out of nowhere. Nobody knows anything right now!

Why is that? He underperformed last year. He had one of if not the most talent in sec. He’s the only sec coach to lose to Kentucky the last two years.
The only good team he has played this year is UGA. He lost!
He is likely not to win a game against a top 25 team by seasons end. His best win is currently OU who has two losses and still plays Tenn, Bama, Mizzou, and LSU.
Just because he beat LSU does not make him good. We suck!

We had our chance with Kiffin and blew it. Now Ole Miss is rolling.

I do...
I am not for it. I think he is a fraud that's never won any titles anywhere. He was fired by Al Davis for cause (being a horrible coach).
The stunt he pulled leaving Tennessee to USC is sickening.
He wants to prove to Saban and CFootball he is the best coach ever! LSU is the best platform to make that happen.
This one is gonna be hard for me but...Forever LSU.

Well, that’s a great reason. Very well thought out. I stand corrected.

Would we wait on him after the playoffs? Let's say he wins the first round, are we waiting till January 2nd to hire him? By God, let's say he gets lucky and wins that one, would he even come at that point?
I just don't know if we can play the waiting game with him if all we have is his word.

Yes, think about the long term and not the short term

Because hiring a coach is largely a crap shoot and Kiffin gives you both the highest floor and highest ceiling of any realistically available coach outside of Lanning. Every candidate is going to have question marks but considering Kiffin has already had success in the SEC with fewer resources available to him, i dont see how you look in any other direction.

This could get sideways for LSU if Lane trolls us and keeps us in the hook while UF & Penn St get their guys and we are left picking at the leftovers.
If Lane is our guy we need to have him signed before the season is over. Wont happen though.

Off topic: but there's a flight from UOX (Oxford Ole Miss Airport) to Houston right now so looks like Lane is a cougar

This right here. I don't see LSU waiting that long with a handshake deal.

Not being a smart arse, but has he? He had one of the more expensive rosters last year. Trey Harris, Trey Amos, Peters, Walter Nolan, Jaxson dart. He lost to KY, LSU, and Florida. He had the better team in all three games.
This year, he beat, Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, and OU. Doesn’t play Bama, ATM, Vandy, Tenn, or Texas. he did play UGA and lost.
He has South Carolina and Florida left. Is that really that impressive?
They may have had the easiest schedule in the sec.
