What is actually being reported on the buyout numbers for Brian Kelly & the staff that's been or will be fired?

Where is that money actually coming from?

Will update the thread title as decently legitimate reporting is shared:
------------
Per LSBoosie/Ross D.

quote:

As of now, it is the full amount that he is contractually owed. So $53ish million. They are currently working on negotiations for a new buyout.

Brian was told he wasn't getting all of it.

He slammed the table with his fists and said WHY NOT

Then HR came in and handled it

Brando is a complete moron with no sources. Yesterday he was screaming and calling TD posters names because we weren’t firing Kelly, then we did.

Tim should be treated like Lonn

His contract requires that we pay him monthly through the end of the originally contracted term. There's also a clause that states that he is supposed to seek meaningful employment in some form / fashion, and that the buyout payments will be reduced in kind.

There is messaging that has been shared in media reports about negotiating something different.

For staff, my understanding, though I'm not sure if this is true, is that staff members do not require buyouts because any terminations (Sloan, for example) are happening after the head coach.

There's also some message board speculation regarding a reduced buyout for Kelly because of some vague references to an extra-marital affair and the "morals clause" but I'd imagine that this sort of thing may never really be reported in the media (at least we would not be told the exact reason for a reduced payout).

Once could also imagine that Kelly and LSU could agree on a lump sum or otherwise different structure that removes some of the work and salary offset requirements.

The bottom line is this - who cares? The outcome of his hiring was the a 70% win percentage propped up mainly be playing a lot of non-conference and unranked teams. Let the man move on with his personal and professional life with $5, $25 or $50mm and we can all move on.

True - it's sort of an agreement to comply with investigations and requests.

While not a specific "morals clause," the contract requires Kelly to cooperate fully and truthfully in any LSU, SEC, or NCAA investigation and to uphold institutional standards.

This is pretty standard, I'd assume, and it would be really hard for LSU to make an argument that Kelly had violated such a clause and that LSU knew he had violated such a clause...but didn't do anything about it until Sunday afternoon.
