Unpopular opinion: I don’t want the next hire to be a big name

I know everyone is throwing lane kiffin or even Saban out there but I truly think the young up and comer is the way to go. I know folks will point out Herman not working out at Texas and Billy Napier being a bust at Florida but theirs also Dan lanning at Oregon, Ryan day at Ohio state, Marcus freeman at ND and Kirby smart at Georgia.
A young up and comer whose hungry and full of energy needs to be the guy. Jon sumrell fits that bill to a tea. Also has LA ties so he should be able to hit the ground running recruiting in the state. Plus he won’t be an ultra expensive hire. I see him being a low risk and high reward

You want an elite program to not hire a big name? According to some outlets the LSU job is the best available in the country.

It’s a sliding scale. LSU Baseball is the best program in the country and we hired a guy who was a name in the sport, but I don’t think anyone would have called Jay an elite, big name coach at the time.
You can hire someone who has had a lot of success at a lower-tier program, even at LSU.

Oregon - Not a job that pulls marquis coaches.
Day - promoted after Urban left, so was already running half of a well-oiled machine. He didn't step into a situation like LSU has right now. On top of that, Ohio State was ready to buy him out last year after the Michigan game.
Freeman - Same as Day. Kelly left when they were #5 in the country. I like Freeman, but he walked into an already-made program with a soft as hell schedule.
Kirby - he was 32-10 in his first 3 years at UGA (for reference Kelly was 29-11 in the same time frame) Kirby didn't win a title until year 6. UGA was willing to wait and let Kirby get it right and now that he has, UGA is a title contender every year.

I don’t want a gimmicky offensive guy. LSU needs to get back to being a physical, imposing team again. That’s how you win a title and beat Georgia, Bama, Texas, and Ohio State.

This leads to being more hung up on getting a "big name" than getting what we actually need to set the program in the right direction.
It's what lead to getting Brian Kelly.

It needs to be a guy 40-50 years old, that has shown an ability to use the portal and recruit. That also can develop players and has a mastery at one side of the ball. Who comes from a good coaching tree and has a history of good coaching hires

ALEX GOLESH meets all the criteria you are suggesting.
He could be the next Saban as he has a similar resume that Saban had before coming to LSU. But his is on the offensive side where Saban was a defensive guru. LSU needs offense

I just want someone who will bring toughness back to this team. Physicality, dominating both sides of the LOS, and sound tackling. RBs breaking tackles, not going down with first contact. Watch the Lacy kid at OM - dude runs hard. The Concepcion kid ran hard the other night. He wasn't going down.
To me, the 9-6 GotC was the greatest football game ever played. A tremendous slugfest. Obviously, you need more offense these days, but those guys played hard, hit hard, and played for their team and coach..

Maybe we have different thoughts on gimmicky. It's alot like Kiffin's and what they ran at Tennessee. Fast paced, spread the field attacking approach but definitely leans on running the ball. Maybe we' share the same opinion overall, I just don't see that anymore gimmicky than Ole Miss.
