Only 2 coaches in the top 25 currently have made the jump from directly HC at G5 to P5.

Cig and Heupel.

Sumrall inherited one of the best situations out there as well. Doesn’t pass the smell test

I would be hesitant with him as well. A little Billy in him.

Troy was a disaster when he took over and he won big there. His team was hit hard by the portal, and he adjusted well this year. No one comes without risk but he has up side.

He took over a Troy program that had only won 5 games in 3 years under Chip Lindsey and went 12-2 and 11-2.

He was already respected in coaching circles before he got the HC job at Troy. He did a good job there. He then stepped up to Tulane and has done a good job there.

It doesn't matter anymore that a G5 program was good when you got there, there is too much turnover now. They get raided every year. He's kept it going.

He is a good coach. Whether or not he can do a good job at LSU remains to be seen but he is a good coach.

I think he will be the HC at Auburn, personally

Won at Troy, won at Tulane…

I mean it ain’t hard to figure out. He’s spent his life in SEC country. He’ll be an SEC coach next season

Eli Drinkwitz jumped from Appalachian State to Missouri. You missed him.

Willie Fritz is Sumrall's predecessor from Tulane and he is in the Top 25 at Houston. You missed him.

We are LSU. I don’t give a damn what someone did at Troy.

If that were the case, Billy boy would be all world at UF his work at ULL

Okay, then who do you think we should hire?

Nobody is saying Sumrall would be successful here. The hire is not without risk. But you asked why he is so highly regarded and I told you.

You need to use your brain and understand that no one is guaranteeing you success.

Who did you just fire?

Your idiot AD was choosing between Kelly, Jimbo Fisher, Mel Tucker, and Lincoln Riley last time. Three of those guys have been fired, and the last guy (Riley) isn't even succeeding at USC. All of those guys were supposedly proven, big-name, winning P4 coaches.

If he wasn't 65, Fritz should be on our list, but he is 65.

I think LSU should take a young coach who has a big upside. The big names haven’t worked out well. I could live with Sumrall

This is stupid. Sumrall isn't at Troy currently. He took a step up from there to Tulane, and is succeeding again.

"Billy Boy" jumped directly from the Sun Belt to Florida. They're two different situations.

so for starters that’s just wrong.

Cig @ #2 Indiana from JMU
Huepel @ #14 Tennessee from UCF
Drink @ #19 Missouri from App St.
Fritz @ #22 Houston From Tulane

and that’s not including Lane Kiffin who went from FAU to Ole Miss because he has time at Tenn and USC (disasters)

Di you know anyone who's played for him? If so, go talk to them. If not, go follow them on social.

The attitude that gets you Brian Kelly and not Curt Cignetti or Dan Lanning

Hire a good coach. Who cares where they come from

If “Summerall” gets the job, we’ll have to endure the constant misspelling of his name.
Just like Sabin.

Stop with this shite.

Sumrall had to replace half or more of his roster after Fritz left.

From Google

quote:

Upon arriving at Tulane, head coach Jon Sumrall faced a massive roster overhaul, having to replace nearly 60 players who had either entered the transfer portal or graduated after the 2024 season. This roster turnover was largely due to the departure of his predecessor, Willie Fritz, for Houston.

Prominent players Sumrall had to replace include:

Quarterback: The most high-profile departure was quarterback Darian Mensah, a four-star prospect who transferred to Duke and was reportedly offered a $4 million-per-year NIL deal. Mensah's exit left a significant hole at the position.

Running Back: Two-time 1,000-yard rusher Makhi Hughes left for Oregon.

Receivers: The top four receivers from the previous season all departed.

Other key positions: Sumrall also had to replace the starting tight end (Alex Bauman, who went to Miami), the punter (Will Karoll), and other key players.

In response to the exodus, Sumrall immediately turned to the transfer portal to rebuild his roster, bringing in 60 new players and only having five returning starters for the 2025 season. Among the new additions was quarterback Jake Retzlaff from BYU.
