$37.5M, 5YR guaranteed with large incentive bonuses for SEC championship and post-season accolades.

Do we like it?

I’ll say one thing… I like it a hell of a lot more than keeping Kelly through his contract and recruiting should not be an issue.

Outside of a couple of names out there, I don’t want a 65 year old coach who’s on his way out. I won’t mind some risk here.

I love it if you make the # 30-32mm, with big incentives like you mention

Idea of Kiffin is fine. Not in love with it especially considering the cost required.

I like it more than James Franklin.

Dan Lanning is not moving.

Brady is a risk. I wouldn’t hate taking that shot.

Sumrall.. idk.

I remember when Kelvin Sheppard first played at LSU. People were like “Damn, that Ryan Perriloux is awesome, he plays defense too”, not realizing that they shared #11.

How exactly do you know this? And don’t give me that “why would he” crap. You NEVER know what motivates a coach, nor do you live in the guy’s brain. Maybe, maybe not, but make the call.

There’s not a ton of hype.

He’s grown in his role in Detroit since joining their staff starting as an OLB coach and now a coordinator. The Lions aren’t a dumb organization.

Doesn’t mean it translates to an SEC head coaching role but he wouldn’t command the money either.

Kelvin's literally in his first year as a coordinator.

Why would we take the chance?

Absolutely. I think odds are extremely low based off his contract & success at Oregon. But sure, you make the call.

Hell, why would he? He has to know he isn’t ready for something like that

I don't think there is any hype but the advantage with Sheppard is that if it works then we potentially have a young HC at his alma mater who may never leave similar to Kirby Smart. It's the biggest possible upside out there

Correct.

At a fraction of the cost on a short leash contract.

He’s never been a college coach. He had zero idea how to run a program. I think his more sensible path is translating success as DC in Detroit to an NFL head coaching gig.

Maybe so. And probably so.

But I think LSU’s (really Woodward’s) process with hiring head coaches has been way too rigid. We only lucked out for a year with Ed O.

I’d love to see some creativity (risk) here. Not just some big name, lazy hire at top dollar who rapes the program financially again.

He’s on the same track as DeMeco Ryans and Jerod Mayo. Will be an NFL head coach in the next few years.

Why can NFL teams take chances but not LSU? We just failed miserably with the surest, most experienced, winningest coach in college football.
