We moved to a new house, and I was late getting on the weed control this summer. I'm dealing with a massive virgina buttonweed infestation. I have hit it with MSM TWICE in the last 6 weeks. Last treatment was about 10 days ago. It is turning purple, but I'm not convinced it's dead. Still has some green leaves.

Do y'all think it will die off, or should I hit it with Celsius or a winter weed cocktail? Normally after 2 treatments the VBW I had in the past looked dead. Not so in this case.

Try using a metal rake on it and hand pulling the big clumps

It does pull easily, but I'm dealing with acres of the stuff.

You should have it all done by the spring.

According to that chart that was posted here, MSM kills 70% and Celsius takes 2 applications.

It’s a systemic herbicide, with shorter days, slightly cooler temperatures, give it time to work, it’s headed in right direction. You adding spreader-sticker (surfactant) to the MSM herbicide solution?

Yep, I used a surfactant/spreader sticker every application.

Weed free zone does a good job on it.

You are limited on how much Celsius you apply per year. If you feel the need to hit it, make sure it is cool enough and use the cocktail or SpeedZone Southern. They are cheaper per application anyway

It has exploded at the end of the summer/early fall this year.

Sprayed mine with a combo of MSM and Celsius a few weeks ago and it has turned yellow and died off pretty good. Think I tried it a month or so before with just one of them and it barely turned purple like that so I hit it again with the combo.

I was late putting MSM Turf and the west here as cool for a week or so and it took about 6 weeks to start showing success and St Augustine started showing some yellowing. But I rather pull hell out of VBW in back yard. Will tackle front yard next spring. Think it has to be certain temp to apply. But it’s all gone now and the dollar weed.
