Misdirection plays and sweeps and tosses. No counters, No inside traps or screens, No reverses. Nothing to take advantage of aggressive defenses and trouble straight up blocking.

I agree. Have we ran a sweep or pulled a guard? Seems everything is ran between the tackles.

Either Sloan is clueless or his play calling is being overshadowed by BK's directives. Or both.

The running game or lack of is a mystery. And our backs go down at first contact while other teams backs push a pile along.

The offensive play calling and the overall OL play have both been atrocious. And it’s inexcusable in year 4 for a coach with this contract.

We need an offensive minded HC.

Joe Brady will probably get an NFL HC gig soon, but that’s the type of HC we need. Kelly doesn’t control one side of the ball, and relies on his coordinators. He’s Midwest Ed O except he can’t recruit as well.

The short answer is that we don't know how. We have a lack of knowledge about implementing a running game effectively from OL coach up through the OC. We hired the FSU guy, but he's either not able to bridge the gap...or they won't allow him .

But, I'd bet anyone with knowledge of the inner workings of the team would probably say that it would be a disaster to attempt to run most of those concepts because they aren't effectively implemented or practiced.

Well anyone who has played any level of football knows that if you are having problems with straight up blocking or defenses are keying on your running plays that you use misdirection to counter this. These are plays that can be installed in a practice. We arent talking brady level new offensive schemes. Just your standard counters, inside traps, reverses, Inside shuttle passes, tunnel screens, pitche/tosses. We can utilize the te like fb and hb and get another body on body. The straight lead dives are infuriating as they are mundane and unimaginative. you dont have to be Nick Saban to scheme for our offense and thats just not acceptable.

They try to fully address this by throwing those quick screens.

That is because our backs are about 150 pounds and slow.

Cubelic has been talking about this too. We have a very bland offense. I don't think Sloan knows how to see what the defense is doing and attack that. Lane does that. Good playcallers do that.

We've ran all of these minus the traps. We actually had some success against SC on counter. We've ran 4 or 5 reverses or end arounds this year. All of them successful. We actually overuse screens if anything. Need to rely on them less and throw the ball deep more which we don't because Nuss can't throw right now. If we wanna complain we need to do these things more then I'll agree but we saying we don't do them isn't true.

The only running game LSU has had since Kelly has been here was Daniels so….I think I know why the run game sucks.

Oline is so dysfunctional, they are keeping it simple...I guess.

I understand that they call so many RPO‘s that require the lineman to pause for the possible pass because they don’t know if they’re gonna run block or pass block that takes away their aggressiveness and their ability to fire off the ball.

But I agree the lack of pulling guards, etc., is perplexing.

Real question: Have we called one outside pitch/run for Harlem Berry?

He's looked good and we know he is fast, but it seems like every carry for him has been between the tackles. Maybe I am forgetting?
