Well damn I’m supposed to have a work trip to Trinidad later this year…

Eta: didn’t really want to go anyway but this may be a good excuse not to or pass it off on another poor employee

I would hate to be a small island independent country 7 miles from a country like Venezuela the last decade.

Have to visit a for land based engineering work on an offshore supply vessel.

Point was that the warning was for the embassy because of anticipated protests. If you aren’t planning to be at the embassy I wouldn’t give it a second thought

I would. The airport, transportation, and hotels will be a shitshow. It’s a shitshow during “normal” activities.

A couple hundred people protesting at the Embassy is going to shut down the airport?

Likely will be worse than that and cause issues. I’ve been there and in Angola during protests. It’s a nightmare.

In the last 10 years our Venezuelan population went from nothing to probably 10-15%, about 150K people.

But they get to use the socialized medicine system and the schools, thats it, there arent all the social programs the US has. And we have a 12.5% VAT tax (similar to a national sales tax) so they are all contributing to the tax base.

They have to work to survive, a novel concept to the US these days.

Trinidad has a long history with the US. During ww2 there were 100K soldiers stationed here to protect the oil being shipped to the UK. They built highways, roads, airport, port......and when they left, they left a legacy if ya know what I mean.

When they asked our prime minister about poor "fishermen" and the US strikes she said "kill them kill them with violence". She is looking for some sweetheart deals on a huge gas field in between our two countries and Rubio is giving her a wink.

The worst thing about your country is Ole Miss fans using the flag to reference their QB.

Infat,

You caught my post last week. That was too funny, Im watching the game and I saw the flag at the pregame and I thought I was seeing things......then I heard the name of the QB was Trinidad.

Jorts jorts jorts, its all perspective my friend.

I head over to Tobago for work for a couple of days next week, like every month. While I am sitting on a beautiful beach drinking a beastly cold Carib, Ill lament how I miss my business drips to Shreveport, and Jackson MS......maybe not

I hope that offshore supply vessel isn’t a cigarette boat.
