A question for those who were around to remember

What was the attitude of the fanbase when it was time for Les to go and how does it differentiate from coach BK or does it? I remember it all going down but I wasn’t on this page or living around Baton Rouge at the time.

Kind of similar. It was similar in that games felt like a chore to watch.
Moffitt took a ton of blame also.

Very similar. Most fans realized the game had passed him by and it was time for him to go.
Ironically, it was the TX A&M game in 2015 that saved him for that season. Only to be canned shortly into the 2016 season.

Only after the rest of the college landscape started adapting to more pass heavy offenses and we sat there doing the exact same shite while watching it not work.
Early on, it was just tough-nosed football which was awesome to watch.

It was similar to this after 21-0 until they let him go. Then they whiffed on Herman and hired Coach O and this place lost it's shite because the ones that were good with keeping Les were pissed because you fired him to hire his DL coach and the ones that wanted him gone were pissed that we "settled" for Coach O.
Then 2019 happened and everyone loved Coach O until 2020 and then we were back to like it is today on here.
It's pretty much been this way for about 18 of the past 20 years or so.

Miles had a lot of goodwill built up with the fanbase from having won a natty in '07 and having gone to another in '11. We all wanted him to succeed at LSU still, but he just wasn't. Similarly, Kelly isn't succeeding in much the same way (both the wins and the losses are an absolute dredge to even watch), but he doesn't have nearly the same amount of goodwill with the fans, so the desire to move on feels much more antagonistic with Kelly than Miles.

Les wouldn't change his neanderthal offense. He kept promising he would but he didn't. When I went to Lambeau expectations were high, and our first play from scrimmage was a power toss inside the tackles. If it wasn't for Tradavious White's pick and punt return we may not have scored against a mediocre Wisconsin team. I knew he was gone as I walked out of that iconic stadium.
BK has made terrible hires. Polian, then House, now Sloan and it's added up to incompetence at one phase of the game or the next. He's got to go 9-3 or I'm off the wagon.

Les was really likable. Seemed like his team liked him and he had decent coordinators. But was hardheaded, kinda like BK.

I didn’t know about this. I can totally understand why there’d be outrage.
Great post. Love these long view of history, the background and context.

It was similar but maybe not quite as bad.
Miles has 2 SEC championships and a national title under his belt and AT THE TIME was still thought of as a decent man.
BK has no hardware and is an a-hole to boot. No goodwill built up for him.

Yeah Les was likable and like everyone said very hard headed on offense. 1/9 changed him much like this fan base. He was running neck and neck with Saban in those years, then the Yeldon screen pass ripped everyone’s hearts out including Les. This is when even Saban finally decided to change the offense and brought in Kiffin. Les was left behind in the museum and never adapted.
That being said people liked Les and rooted for him to be better. No one seems to like BK and that combined with mediocre results and going to doom him quickly

Les hung on way longer than BK will have the chance to. Too much money today at stake.

It was the same as now. It was also like this in 2008 and 2009.

1/9/12 - The night that lives in Infamy. This is THE day that fans started turning against Miles.
11/3/12 - This was the night that even more fans started to turn against Miles.
11/7/15 -The night that put an abrupt end to the overwhelming Heisman favorite Fournette’s dream of winning and promptly thrust Derrick Henry as the King. Fans were irate that Miles continued to run Fournette into 8 & 9 man fronts. A lot of people were done with Miles after this game. Ever thought this was LSU’s first loss of the season.
LSU promptly lost to a really bad Arkansas team and Ole Miss and the Miles train was firmly off the tracks. Everyone thought for certain that the A&M game was Miles final game as Coach. Looked like Jimbo Fisher would be named the new coach But… LSU went on to win and the idiot fans at the game pretty much forced Our idiot AD to backtrack and keep him.
Bad move as the next season LSU played an iconic game at Lambeau and LSU’s offense sucked arse and lsu was humiliated by a very average Wisconsin. Lsu fans were livid. 3 games later and LSU had enough and fired him.

That and a bunch of BR Karens on social media who fell for Les’s “poor me” act the week of the game.
And Bobby Jindal, as I recall.

Pretty similar. Both winning just enough games to hang around. It’s like football purgatory.

“Around to remember” confused me. It literally feels like yesterday to me. I guess it’s been 10 years

Great summary Tammany. There's a message in this for today's fans. If by chance LSU wins Saturday against A&M, we need to wait to see how rest of season plays out before deciding fate of BK. In my opinion, anything short of winning out and making playoffs this year is grounds for termination since BK had a $18million roster and thumped his chest about keeping receipts, etc.
Like 2016 with Les, it won't take long to realize we still have same BK we've had. 4 years is enough of an evaluation period to see what your coach can do these days, with portal, NIL, etc. See Indiana. If you got right guy, he can turn it around quickly.

HEY - I was at that game too - a local asked me what our first play would be = I told him "handoff over left tackle"
people were real nice to us up there !!!
