If we could get a 5th j think that would be good, dump his contract and opens up a spot for Stutsman to get more playing time.

Well he’s not gonna be one here so who cares?

Problem is the existence of film. He sucks and anyone can see it. Couldn't get a 7th.

This. Werner really sucks. Slow and weak. Late to the ball, can't tackle well and cannot cover anyone. I almost had a coronary when I saw the Bears motion Swift to the outside and noticed Werner follow him. I was sure it was going to be a touchdown, but C. Williams threw short to D.J. Moore, who was, conveniently, also wide open.

Werner looks like he has cindernblocks for cleats right now. Idk if he’s injured or not, but he’s playing really slow.

Another Mickey special, 2nd round bust.

He did have one really good year, but that seems so long ago.

--I'm definitely on the trade Werner train, though it does have to be for decent compensation.
--Werner might be our new Scott Shanle. There's a couple of seasons his performance has been subpar enough that we talk about replacing him, so now we'll give players opportunities but will they actually be an upgrade?
--He's a below average starter that does not make impact plays, but also does not typically make mistakes that give up big plays.
--He's not horrible, people are just exaggerating because he does not make enough plays on a bad football team.
--We should absolutely give Sutsman & Stallbird ample opportunities to supplant him, which we have seen them get more snaps the last 2 games and seemed to show up live, though I have not specifically keyed on them in a film review. If one of them takes over then great, if not then we still have decent play in Werner
--Werner's contract vs play. He signed a 3yr/$22.5M deal with just $11.1M guaranteed.
--Guaranteed money is fine for average/below average starter or even quality backup.
--Cap hit is the issue after a reasonable $2.8M this season it jumps to $7.9M in '26 and $8.2M in '27, which are too high for his current play.

He’s a mediocre player at a non-premium position. He has next to zero trade value.

No way he commands a 5th without us having to attach a 6th or 7th of our own to the deal. Caleb Williams blew past him in the open field when Pete had the angle. He's slow and just doesn't have the pop he had when we drafted him.

No disrespect, I don't think anyone that's currently on the roster is worth a 5th round pick. We sent a lemon to Washington; Lattimore is playing like dogshite. I guarantee its team not picking up the phone when Mickey calls. The only team that probably pickup is the Broncos, and their GM is bending Mickey over every deal.

Sounds like he's the prime candidate for a restructure and extension to the point that we'll never be able to afford to let him walk

And next year's salary is fully guaranteed. So, unless someone is willing to trade for him to take that on, no reason to cut him until after 2026.

Reality is that every team has to have some low cost veteran starters who aren’t great. Even if you hit on 50% of draft picks (extremely unlikely) you’ll never have enough guys on rookie deals to always start good cheap guys or great expensive veterans
