LSU would not have guaranteed the buyout if they didn't have the funds to pay it

I don't think the AD on down to each member of the BoS would have approved the buyout if the funds to pay it weren't there or easily assessable. Maybe I'm naive, but that's just my take.

they guaranteed the buyout because that is what was required to get Kelly to sign the contract. He had no reason to leave Notre Dame otherwise.

I think you are naive on this matter. I don't think those folks thought past the end of their nose. They needed to make a big splash hire, and they did whatever it took to get one.

You’re have too much faith in BoS.

Most of them are political cronies severing at the pleasure of the governor. They don't care. At one time back in the early 2000’s they did care. Just my two cents??

I want to a talk where the LSU athletics CFO was a speaker, and he said BK better work out, because LSU does not have the funds to buy him out. HOWEVER this was in 2023 so it’s very possible things have changed.

Can we just offer $25m for BK to ride off into the sunset? At the end of the day, I think that's a # we can all live with.

I say this as someone who wont contribute a dime

Honestly this isn’t unlikely. Kelly is looking at a full rebuilt next year with a completely hostile fanbase. Could see him cut his losses and take around half his buyout rather than let this program, and his reputation as a coach, further deteriorate.

If we indeed do not have the funds, then this is our best bet. Pedal to the metal from the fanbase!

If LSU had $90 million easily accessible, they wouldn't have been publicly begging for fans to donate for NIL.

I’ve got the funds to buy a Tahoe.

But i don’t need one just like LSU doesn’t need to pay a muppet 60 million to suck.

This went horribly.

No one want to part w 50 million. That was never a plan given the exuberant ok.

I’d love for some of the NIL money I’ve spent to be reallocated to the buyout fund. I’ll get my accountants on it.

If someone owes you 50 million would you take 25 million?

Serious question.

And Woodward agreed because there was no way in his mind this was going to fail.

Depending on who his agent is, I doubt it. Those people make their money from commission as salary percentages, and I guarantee they'll fight like hell to keep their client from accepting anything less than "what they deserve".

It's a win-win for those leeches. BK sucks but LSU can't afford to fire him? Okay, that's fine - I still get to draw my commission from the remainder of his 10mil/yr contract for as long as he's getting paid. BK sucks and they want to fire him? Okay, that's fine too - pay the full buyout or we'll see you in court (and I'll still get my full commission).

The one thing I can't see happening is them saying "Want to fire BK and pay him a small portion of his buyout? Okay, I'll convince him to take less money without a fight, even if it also costs me a few million".

The only way that might work is if BK already had somewhere else to go that would pay him at least as much as he's bleeding LSU for.

Just an opinion.

Scott Woodward and Co., expected this to go significantly differently. They expected by year 3/4 to be in the playoff. They really thought after the first season that LSU was going to be playoff bound with the talent they had returning in 2023. Scott thought he was going to Coach out his contract without running into the issues that he has.

It is also a very bad look to other Coaches to fire a Coach after 3.5 years when hes had almost 10 wins every season. Makes it harder to get that Coach. Hes safe. And everyone needs to come to that realization that he will not be fired after this season or next season unless he has back to back .500 season. That would mean he go 1-4 to close this regular season out and go 6-6 or worse next year. But even then its still unlikely.

This feels like what Woodward did at A&M with Jimbo. Jimbo was worse than BK, but Woodward was the point man for both mistakes.

he ain’t taking half. Are you nuts?

He isn’t concerned with his reputation and we have no way to attract the assistants we need. His assistants are all seeing their stock plummet too.

No money is coming to buy players next year. And we obviously didn’t recruit like we thought, or we wouldn’t have Chester at left tackle.

The only salvation is to cut ties now. Today, but that ain’t gonna happen.

Next year will make this one look like a NC team

You may get him to go away around $40 million. Having to work through a rebuild, deal with a hostile fan base, and the potential to tarnish your overall career is worth something. I don’t think he’ll walk for just half though.

You are overthinking this.

Kelly has an agent who is world class at negotiation, otherwise he would not be an agent for a high profile CFB coach.

LSU has a team that might do one of these type contracts their entire life.

This is why every college across the country gets stuck with these horrible deals.
