Formula 1 has announced a five-year partnership with Apple to become the sport’s exclusive U.S. broadcast partner from 2026, bringing together two global brands with a shared passion for innovation, excellence, and entertainment.

The news follows on from the hugely successful F1 The Movie, the Apple Original Film, which was released internationally in cinemas and IMAX venues in June and will make its global streaming debut date on Apple TV on Friday, December 12 2025.

Making a growing sport in the US impossible to watch for the average fan always works out well. Just ask MLS...

Good, frick ESPN. They hardly ever acknowledge F1 outside of the race itself.

Plus Apple helped bring us this:

They would if enough people cared.

I have Apple TV, so no big deal personally. I do hope they’ll still be simulcasting the Sky broadcast. Crofty and Brundle are favorites of mine.

The streaming services are all pivoting into sports programming and their subscription prices are increasing. I will have to cancel a few services next year. Hopefully cable 2.0 will come along and fix the chaos.

F1 TV premium will now be included with Apple TV.... That's a pretty decent deal

Your comment made me realize how few MLS matches I've even seen airing since their apple deal. There was always a game or two that you could watch during the week

Yup. Currently I have F1TV Premium at $130/yr but I don't subscribe to AppleTV. But now I can get AppleTV plus F1TV Premium at just $100/yr.

My understanding is that there was a recent monthly price increase to $13/mo (works out to $156/yr), but that the yearly upfront price did not increase and remained at $100/yr. With the addition of F1TV I'm guessing that they will close that loophole and raise the annual price to get closer to the $13/mo rate. Maybe I should lock in that $100/yr rate soon.

I did F1TV for a year and dropped it. Just didn't use the app enough when compared to getting ESPN coverage.

The only reason I paid for F1TV is the 3rd-party MultiViewer app for Windows. If iMultiViewer didn't exist there would have been no reason for me to pay for F1TV. It transforms the experience for me. Since I have more interest in the mid-field teams, the live timing plus the ability to see the race from multiple cockpits at once allows me to track the mid-field action closely. It allows me to experience the race exactly how I want. So having F1TV Premium folded into the base AppleTV subscription is amazing to me.

Indycar ratings are going go boom.

Memorial Day is now down to just Indy on TV

Nastycar: Prime
EeeF1: Apple
Indycar: Major network TV

Nascar lost over 30-35% for the 5 Prime races they had this year. But related once they came back after Prime they are down 20% on average compared to last year. What it means is fans are tired of all the streamers taking over sports. And they are finding other things to do with that time.

Nascar had some of the most loyal long time viewers and lots if those fans realized when it went to Prime they could survive without their race. And gave up the sport. And Nascar did not pick up that many “new demo” fans to compensate. And new demo fans are way less loyal.

Nascar outdrew F1 every week. And now they will lose many US fans just like Nascsr.

Its not even just about cost its having so many different subs and prices are going up. When streaming started it worked because they offered for free or very little cost. Now added together they are way higher than old cable and still rising. But also its too many different subs. Plus on most you can’t record, some have limited pause.

Eventually this game of musical chairs stops and there will sports who realize they messed up big time selling out to these platforms.
