Fall Weeds

So I am getting ready to put out my pre emergent tomorrow. Supposed to rain Saturday here. I've still got Lespedeza and VBW left over from the summer. I'm losing the battle with both of those. Will killing these now with Celsius and WFZ help with keeping them in check next spring/summer or am I just wasting time as they will die back as soon as it gets cooler and nothing I do now will impact next year?

I have the same problem right now and I have the same plan. I hit it all with Celsius and MSM over the past few weeks and will be putting down preemergent in a couple weeks.
My plan, and google says it’s a decent one, is to kill off the buttonweed and crabgrass now then spot treat what pops back up in the spring and it should be at least manageable by summer, though not fully eradicated. This year I’ve had a MASSIVE increase in buttonweed, nutsedge, and crabgrass. I don’t think it’s a coincidence AT ALL that it’s because I listened to the jackasses here who shite on Scott’s Weed & Feed all the time and for the first time in my homeownership life (15 years) I did not apply it this year. Never again! I will use that stuff religiously going forward, with probably three applications a year.
I’m now in a battle I’ve lost so far against buttonweed and crabgrass and I’m hoping to regain control next spring.

It ain't a quick fix with button weed, took me 3 yrs to control mine, I still see it but rarely, hit it with MSM, Frickin sedges are another animal, that shite never goes away, I get it in the same areas every year, anything green in my dormant bermuda gets hit with trimec

ChatGPT is telling me that killing these now will help with setting them back for next year so I'm gonna do my best now. I have some Celsius and Weed Free Zone and both of those seem to work on these two weeds. WFZ is actually better in my experience with those specific two.

Controlling weeds is always better than letting them spread. Every day they are there they are dropping more and more seeds.

Agreed. I've stated many times on here that consistently walking your property / yard and staying on top of weeds is key.

Lespedeza generally means I missed a spot with my nitrogen applications. If I stay on top of fertilization it’s non existent.

I don't think it was because you didn't use the scott's....I've seen the worst lespedza, crabfgrass and especially doveweed in my 30 years at my current house.

Yea did you not use the Scott’s and also not apply anything else ? If so that’s on you.
Most in here recommend separate applications of herbicide, fertilizer and pre emergent.
Now if you’re strapped for time then convenience wins and you may need to use combo products, but usually there not as effective as single source applications.

I used Atrazine, MSM, Sedgehammer, and Celsius three times between the spring and July. I've had to use it again over the past few weeks to try to tame/kill this shite as much as possible before preemergent this fall. I'm definitely going to use preemergent again in the spring and follow it up with some weed and feed probably in April/May once everything comes out of the greening phase. I usually use weed and feed twice a year and have typically been set with that. Figured I'd try not using it this year and instead using the others I mentioned but buttonweed and crabgrass just burst with excitement all over my lawn.

no...haven't used Scott's in 10 years or so....I do use what is recommended on this board for fall pre-em (Specticle) and spring (prodiamine) so not on me

I never used Weed & Feed. Took a few years of staying on top of it but my lawn rarely needs post emergent herbicides now. Just sedgehammer for nutsedge about once per season.
My neighbor only uses Weed & Feed and his yard constantly has weeds.
But seriously, if you have better luck with W&F then switch back. It’s your lawn, you don’t have to listen to us jackasses who don’t know anything.

If Scott’s weed and feed worked for button weed I’d buy a lifetime supply of it for both of us.

Weed & Feed just seems to feed my weeds. Waste of time and money.

I have made great strides with lespedeza by using a pre emergent in the early Spring then Nitrogen a bit after

I had exceptional results with one treatment of VBW with MSM. I dug a LOT of Dallisgrass out and it finally paid off. You will get a small window when the Bermuda is dormant and the Dallisgrass is still green, to hit it with glysophate. My biggest booger bear this year was goose grass.
