Indiana and Curt Cignetti have agreed on a new 8-year contract with an average salary of $11.6 million per year, IU announced Thursday. The contract expires Nov. 30, 2033. Buyout information was not disclosed.

"At Indiana University, we are committed to performing at the highest levels in everything we do, and no one has exemplified that more than Coach Cignetti," said Indiana University President Pamela Whitten. "Put simply, Cig is a winner.  From last year's College Football Playoff appearance to this year's top-3 national ranking, the IU Football program's success has been tremendous. Curt and Manette Cignetti are home in Indiana and we are delighted that the Cignetti family will be Hoosiers for many years to come."

"We are committed to investing in IU Football in such a way that we can compete at a championship level, and the No. 1 priority in doing that is ensuring that Coach Cignetti is the leader of our program," said AD Scott Dolson. "His accomplishments during the last season and a half have been nothing short of remarkable. As much as anyone, he believed in what was possible with our program, and he's turned that belief into reality. This is a great day for IU Football and Indiana University. I look forward to working alongside Coach Cignetti for many years to come."

He has had some good years for sure, but I always remember the Mel Tucker deal at MSU after one good season.

But Cignetti has done it at multiple levels and has made Indiana into a real power

If I were a coach like Cignetti Id much rather make my own legacy and earn my own statue rather than rehabilitate the image of a creep like JoePa.

Plus the Paedo State boosters are probably no wealthier than the IU boosters after swallowing that buyout.

Damn, in the middle of the season too.

Well done by Indiana. They know they have a good coach and they're doing everything they can to keep him. Kind of crazy he's getting that much money and has yet to win anything. Though, to be fair, what he's done at Indiana is basically like a championship for them.

No cap mate, IU has the Young GOAT and they have no intentions of letting him go. Congrats IU and Coach Ciggy!

More evidence the Big 10 is going to do the private equity deal IMO

A lot of money but congrats to him.

He's more than earned it at a school like Indiana.

There's a bunch of underling schools like Indiana, Virginia, Vandy, Texas Tech, etc. That have access to a shitload of money should they find themselves with a good coach and a good season or two to continue success.

The days of them being stepping stone jobs may be done if the alumni base cares enough.

Seems Stanford is moving in that direction too.

Eh, maybe, maybe not.

IU alumni base is big and wealthy. If they mobilized, they could be a real problem. Kelley, as an example, is well-known in the business and finance world.

His former contract had a 13 million dollar buyout if he left this year. I bet this one is 20+ million if he leaves for another job.
