Major League Baseball’s hot streak of television viewership continued through the second round of the playoffs and into the start of the third round.
After the league posted across-the-board audience increases in the regular season and the wild-card round, it ended the division series round with an average per-game viewership of 4.17 million, up 17% from last year and the best such figure since 2011.

I was a skeptic, but the pitch clock has been a game changer.
Postseason baseball has always been awesome. Glad more people are tuning in.

Considering a lot of the big names and markets have been knocked out of the playoffs, this is a nice accomplishment.
If MLB would stop going gay every June for pride month the sport would take off.
Also, the playoffs are about the only time you see them on normal TV stations. The majority of their games on a smarttv app that you have to subscribe to each year. This inherently turns the sport into more of a niche for the best fans. They should be in a constant battle to convert the casual fan.
Playoff baseball, when every pitch matters, is awesome.

Having some fresh, young teams in the playoffs surely helps

I hope people are ready for this ALCS to be lit. Jays punched back and let the Mariners know they won't go quietly.

Give Cleveland their name back and I’ll watch - was a massive fan haven’t watch an inning since the name was stolen

So less than NFL and CFB reg season games and NBA playoffs conference semifinals and March Madness? Good for MLB beating out the NHL and WNBA.

That's fair. That rebrand is awful

Would watch MLB over NBA anyday.

This year's playoff have most of the same teams from last year.
Milwaukee, Detroit, San Diego, NY Yankees, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Los Angeles, ALL made the playoffs last year.
I'm guessing the increase from last year may have a lot to do with two of the "new" teams this year: Cubs and Red Sox. Both have strong national fanbases. Then you add Toronto to that mix. It's 7th largest metro area in North America. More importantly, it's the only team in Canada. So it may be that you are brining in not just Toronto, but a large part of Canada too....particularly considering Seattle (not far from Vancouver) is also in the mix.

The NBA is awful and still had a 4.9M viewer average for the same stage of playoffs compared to MLB's 4.17M.

Just because you can suck cock doesn’t mean you have to do it for fun.

Turns out the Dodgers aren't actually killing the sport

Wonder how much those numbers could increase if they went back to having games on antenna channels. As it is, you need a streaming service for FS1 to see the ALCS, and TBS/TruTV/HBO Max for NLCS.

I’m not a fan of any team, but I kind of like only following MLB during the playoffs. Scratches the baseball itch just enough to hold me over until LSU baseball starts back up. The competition is excellent.

It's been good TV. Love postseason baseball and pace of play has been a nice bonus.

Basically Nielsen is improving how they capture sport ratings so I think you are going to see ratings largely go up this year

Dear Networks,
This proves that people actually DO watch teams besides the Red Sox and Yankees. For next year, please quit putting Red Sox vs Yankees on primetime every single time they play.
Signed,
All of us

Seattle and Toronto. Milwaukee is always an early exit. Detroit is still fresh after only being back last year.

Hard to believe the Championship series are on Foxsports and TBS.
