Does anyone have any recorded stories of Jimmy visiting GI?

He seems like he would have loved it, and I know he had a great affinity for New Orleans. I also used to believe this line was written about Grand Isle:

“I want to go back to the islands
Where the shrimp boats are tied up to the piling
Give me oysters and beer
For dinner every day of the year
And I'll feel fine, I'll feel fine”

Any insights?

Shrimp and Oysters are not an exclusive Grand Isle thing.

It may come as a surprise, but shrimping and oyster harvesting is done in many coastal communities along the gulf coast. He would know this because he was from Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Key West, specifically.

Jimmy was a fan of beach towns and fishing spots. He loved Folly Beach, SC, and given the time he spent in NOLA I'm sure he was familiar with Grand Isle. I do know that when he played the post BP oil spill show in Gulf Shores, during Nobody From Nowhere the video board was showing the welcome to/city limits signs from a lot of Gulf coast towns, and GI was included.

We'll never know but why so unlikely? He was born in Pascagoula and a huge lifelong fan of New Orleans and South Louisiana food and culture. He made his bones as a street performer in the Quarter before moving to Key West. Played Jazz Fest for decades and was a big Saint's fan..

Over the years he wrote over a dozen songs referencing New Orleans and Cajun culture.

And had area musicians play with him

He even covered Zydeco-- USS Zydecoldsmobile with Sonny Landruth:

Helped put Lawtell and Frilot Cove on the map lol!

I wonder if there is a speeding trap town more famous than Golden Meadow.

We went to both shows in Gulf Shores, the first one was cancelled because of a tropical storm but we managed to find out he was going to play Lulu's that night instead. We went back a couple of weeks later for the big show on the beach.

Was epic to be within 5 ft of him and the stage at Lulu's

Is it the Key of D?

For my musical folks, you got that one. Margaritaville is in the Key of D…

D
Nibblin' on sponge cake, watchin' the sun bake
A
All of those tourists covered with oil
A
Strummin' my six string, on my front porch swing
D D7
Smell those shrimp they're beginnin' to boil
