The Liberals think they have a wedge item which some Conservatives are taking the bait....
DID YOU KNOW?
First, Qatar is NOT getting a base. They are getting a Training Squadron at Mountain Home AFB using F15's...
ALSO...
Singapore has the 428th Fighter Squadron that has been stationed at the very same Mountain Home AFB since 2009 training on the same jet.
428th Ftr Squadron
2009...16 years under 3 Presidents and to my recollection no one has made this an issue.
There are other detachments from different nations so people need to lighten the hell up

The mall in Doha has a PF Changs, Applebee's, Starbucks, etc.
Why are these American companies comfortable having franchises over there?
You don't see them setting up shop in Iran.

May not still be the case, but for years German pilots trained at whatever base in near El Paso. Had several business trips out there, and would see a bunch of uniformed Germans around. This sort of thing has been going on for years.

The dutch train at Luke AFB in Arizona. The Brits train at Roberts, Edwards and Ligget. Germany is at Reston. 14 different NATO countries have foreign detachments training at US bases.
This isn't anything new.

During the Clinton years, and probably after that, there were military officers from Middle East countries training at Brooks AFB in Aerospace Medicine. Don't recall if they were pilots or flight surgeons. Brooks, and now Wright Patt, was the main training location for flight docs seeking board certification as a Resident in Aerospace Medicine (RAM).

You have foreign pilots training at bases all across this country.
This story is a nothing burger.

The United States has hosted training squadrons from other nations since World War II.

Good luck explaining this to people on this website.. they just don’t want to believe it. They are building a training facility to teach their pilots how to fly the airplanes we sold them

Brazilians have trained at Maxwell in Montgomery for years as well.

I'm not sure why people would care anyway, its not China or Iran.

The Italian fixed wing pilots have trained at Pensacola and Corpus Christi for years. Biggest thing they have to unteach is the Italian propensity to want to fly in reverse.

The US military trains foreign pilots at US bases. Has forever.
Qatar was a massive ally going backt to Operation Desert Storm. It's also one of the more westernized Muslim countries so to speak.
The main idea behind this is that if Qatar pays for the facility, it avoids the US Government red tape and appropriations that take years to go through.
Many bases in Europe had facilities built and turned over to foreign nations because the buildings were appropriiated to be built well in advance of US forces leaving those facilities due to base closures. That's how long the appropriations process can take.

The initial messaging on this issue was poorly worded and disseminated by the Pentagon. Many people, including me, were thoroughly confused as to why we were ceding land for a military base to a foreign (Muslim) country.
It's very telling that Hegseth had to issue a clarification over the weekend. Clearly, there was enough concern that it reached their ears and they realized that there was a communication problem.
There were plenty of administration supporters who were concerned and confused. Let's admit there was a communication snafu and, at least as initially disseminated, the message was concerning.

Why don’t you buy a franchise and open one? Main fare can be camel and gust kabobs

There have been foreign militaries training on and alongside US forces since at least I was in starting in 1988.
We had Saudis, Koreans, and a slew of Europeans.
This is a nothing burger.
