On the subject of Pope Leo

The multiple threads and misinformation on this board has been pretty rampant. Pope Leo released the "Dilexi Te" document and the fake news, and misinterpretations, are rampant. I would encourage everyone to read the ACTUAL document. Barring that, heres some free thoughts.....TLDR version included at conclusion......
1. Nowhere in the writing does Leo reference Trump policy. The CCC 2241 explicitly states" Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens."
The headlines stating Leo said you can't be "pro life" unless you accept immigrants is fake news. Nowhere in the document does being "pro life" get referenced.
2. "Dilexi Te" was the unfinished work of Pope Francis. Francis was writing not in apostolic exhortation, but encyclical. This means, essentially, that Leo downgraded the importance of the document from what Francis intended. Encyclicals are formal teachings. This is not that.
Papal Continuity is important, as Benedict finished the work of JP2, which eventually became Keras and Veritas. Francis finished the work of Benedict which became Lumen Fideilumin. The point being that the beginning of a Papacy is frequently finishing the works of a predecessor.
This document does not and will not define Leo's Papacy. We did not know the direction Francis would take the church for some time, and Leo's Papacy will be no different.
3. "The poor" globally is not referencing the panhandlers we think of in America. The widows and orphans and those who are victims of circumstance are the intended recipients of charity. It is also not just referencing monetary poverty, but also poverty of faith, culture, freedom etc.
TLDR: Dilexi Te was primarily the work of Pope Francis. The document nor Pope Leo have said what many headlines are saying, nor what this board has interpreted, largely.

The Catholic church teachings are clear. Pro-life means protect life from conception to natural death. This is not new, and Leo will not waiver from that.

I can also say that I hope the church makes movement away from "climate change" and the subsequent shrinking of the middle class. That has nothing to do with Dilexi Te, however.

Im Catholic
Im not reading a document from a pope (Francis you say ) that brought a pagan idol into the Vatican.
Even if it was an innocent misunderstanding, it proves that his judgement is seriously compromised.
Until we stop apologizing for the large number of Heretics that currently run the Vatican we will never be rid of them.

Francis damaged the Church badly. The Church has had bad popes as far as behavior. Francis straight up caused confusion about the Church’s teachings because he couldn’t shut up on any topic.

I was a critic of Francis. However, even his words were perverted by the media. Same sex unions comes to mind.

Don’t k know how I am going to sleep tonight and be able to function tomorrow knowing all of this about the Pope. He needs to be impeached! It’s all Trump’s fault

Yeap Leo has done a good job of stating what the Church believes on this.
Countries have the right to secure their borders
There should be legal immigration controlled by the country, but not open boarders

Actions speak louder than words.
I sleep better at night having faith my weapons are at the ready, not a church.

You may be the only person on the planet that sees it that way. Why did you ignore his latest acts?
He is 100% against the Trump policy, and is tasking the church to aid and assist in violating the laws of our nation
quote:
This week, a clear, uncompromising picture emerged of Pope Leo: He cares about the plight of migrants, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops should, as well. His comments to the bishops in the United States may have sent a chill down some of their spines. He said, “I wish that they were stronger in their own voice.”
quote:
Two meetings marked an important week Pope Leo’s papacy. The pope met Tuesday with a group of more than 100 Latino Catholics from the National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry who work with migrants across the United States. This wasn’t an arranged audience; rather the pope called them to a private audience in the courtyard of the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican. The pope told them, “You have in your hands a very great task, which is to accompany the people who truly and profoundly need a sign that God never abandons anyone: not the smallest, not the poorest, not the foreigner, not anyone.”
The following day, he met with Bishop Mark Seitz of El Paso, Texas, who has been an important figure for migrant rights at the border of Texas. Seitz carried letters from migrants to the pope expressing their fears of ICE and the Trump administration’s immigration policy. The group also showed the pope a video about the plight of migrants in America. It was in Pope Leo’s comments to them that he implicated the USCCB. He said, “The church cannot be silent,”
quote:
When we couple the pope’s remarks this week with last week’s statements that people championing anti-immigration policies in America aren’t pro-life, we see that the pope isn’t shy about addressing the politics in this country that collide with Catholic Church teachings.

Give me quotes from Leo, not antagonistic media. Let us judge his words, good or bad.

The Pope blessed a block of sea water ice instead of going to the sea itself and blessing the sea. The sea is part of God's creation after all. Pope was just blessing God's creation.
What's so terrible about that?
Now, if Pope is on the side of the Climate Change Progressives then THAT would be terrible.
Also, if Pope wants us Catholics to break the law to promote open borders, that would also be terrible.
Catholics aren't obligated to follow the Pope's political opinions. We are obligated to respect his political opinion, educate ourselves on the topic and form our own political opinions.

You are downplaying the influence of the leader of the church.
It is a shame you have to do that. But I understand why you do.
