Admittedly, I know very little about UCLA football, but from a distance it looks like two different teams before and after Foster leaving. Anyone have any real insight?

actually little Neuheisel is the reason for the turn around. Ever since he taken over the offense they’ve look great

Skipper isn’t even a position coach. He was a generic assistant (special assistant to the HC). And this is his first season

Nothing about Foster’s other lieutenants suggest he was capable of picking brilliance capable of turning the program around on a dime. His 2 OC hires (Sunseri and Eric Bieniemy) were as bad as it gets

Sunshine has been coaching there (his alma mater) since 2018. It’s not rocket science to see he’s the why

Prior to Kelly leaving UCLA he dismissed Foster, he went to Las Vegas. When Kelly left a couple of months later, many assumed that Ken Norton a former Bruin would get the job. When they hired Foster most of the defensive staff left. Foster then hired Eric Bieniemy to run his offense.

Go watch his press conference from the 2024 B10 media days. That’ll answer your question.

Neuheisel looks like he could be Targaryen with the right costume.

Foster might be a nice guy and all, but I have no clue how he got the job after seeing him at media days. If that’s indicative of how he speaks…yikes.

Bieniemy was only OC last year. Foster fired him and the hired Tino Sunseri for this season. The offense then got significantly worse leading to Foster getting canned in game three. Interim HC Tim Skipper gave Sunseri one more game against Northwestern and canned him after they only put up 14 points. They have scored 42 and 38 w/Jerry Neuheisel at OC. Overall, in four games of Sunseri they scored 57 total points and in two of Neuheisel they've scored 80.

So I'd say that Foster was pretty dang bad but Sunseri had to have been just as bad if not worse.

Sunseri left Cogneti where they had been rolling though. You see defensive guys nerf their OC’s all the time. I think we need more data on Sunseri before we definitively say he sucks

Foster wasn't a defensive coach, he was a RB coach for 8 years before getting the HC gig.

Sunseri also got that game w/o Foster as HC and could only muster 14 points against Northwestern.

Neuheisel instantly turning it around and averaged 40 over two games against Michigan State and Penn State heavily indicates Sunseri was awful. Also, Sunseri was a co-oc under Cignetti. He wasn't calling plays for Indiana. Mike Shanahan was/is the Hoosier playcaller.

Happens with promotion. This isn’t rocket science

UCLA will have a tough decision because they will lose the OC if they promote the Interim.
