Another view of the hazards of sleep apnea, {reason for a cpap}

Wife and I have both used cpaps nightly for the last 10 years and believe in the use.
Yesterday, wife getting a tooth extracted under anesthesia, had her blood pressure go up and pulse rate drop to very low. Blood oxygen content down to 70. She was on oxygen at the time, but had slowed breathing.
Today at the cardiologist , he described the activity as probably a result of a sleep apnea person receiving a drug that slowed the pulmonary function. The next couple weeks testing will further develop the issue.
I had generally thought sleep apnea was a nighttime sleeping disorder. Now I am aware that daytime events can cause a very serious problem. A similar breathing problem was experienced the previous week at the pulmanolgist doing multiple exhales in a spirometer.
A different look at the issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look up pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale for long term risks of sleep apnea. Not to mention day to day fatigue, lack of alertness from waking up all night every night. Good for you for using a cpap. A lot of people say they can’t tolerate the mask.

Chronic sleep apnea can be a huge potential risk under monitored anesthesia, especially with something like a tooth extraction. Y'all dodged a bullet.

Yes the bulk of commonly used anesthesic drugs depress the cardiac and respiratory functions.

It takes sometime to get use to it.
I wouldnt recommend the mouth, I would go nasal.
I find a sleep better with the nasal.
The positive pressure from the mouth guard can effect your gums and cavities. Depending if you have healthy bacteria or not.
It can cause gum recession as well. Depending on how healthy your gums are. If your diabetic you gotta be weary of that as well.
Most wont tell you this.

For me it was instantaneous and question became how can I fall asleep without it?
I've gone a handful of nights without mine and can tell you exactly which nights they were.

Good advice unless you happen to breathe through your mouth. Then a full mask is needed.
