My 9yo asked me to take him to a haunted house this year. The only ones I know of are 13th Gate and Rise. While I THINK he’d be fine if I take him, I don’t want to risk him getting scarred for life into never wanting to go to another one again. The most he’s ever ventured into the horror genre is Five Nights at Freddy’s.

I know Benny’s does one, but a haunted house inside a car wash sounds like a terrible experience all around.

Anything else out there?

This is a good time to teach your kid to not celebrate pagan holidays and save his soul before it’s too late

Depending how close you are to Galveston/Texas City area, you can't go wrong in that area with your pick of free or like $5 cover charge haunted houses/churches. If 13th Gate is an 11 out of 10, these are more on the 6 to 7 range but well worth it to hop around to a handful on 10/31.

PG-13. So some brief nudity is allowed. I hope he gets boobs instead of some guy’s arse.

There is one in Houma on the airbase.

I don’t know if it is G, PG, PG-13, or NC-17.

But here is the story from their website:
"Soteria" - The Sanctuary of Shadows

In the aftermath of a catastrophic natural disaster that has ravaged civilization, the world outside is a DECOMPOSED wasteland, a graveyard of dreams and hopes.
Humanity's last remnants cling to survival amidst chaos, where the ground is littered with the decaying remnants of a once-thriving society.

Yet, amidst this decay, a group of survivors has banded together, calling themselves the "Family," creating an idyllic sanctuary known as Soteria.
Soteria stands as a beacon for weary travelers such as yourself, a mirage of safety in a world gone mad.

The sanctuary promises refuge from the horrors of the outside world, offering running water, sleeping quarters, meals, and security - commodities that have become rare and precious.

The Family will welcome new arrivals with open arms and warm and inviting smiles.
The first stop for you, the traveler, will be the Welcome Center, a room adorned with vibrant flowers and soft music that plays like a lullaby.
Here, your weapons and belongings will be collected with gentle hands, and the sanctuary rules will be laid out.

Next, you will be invited into our dining room, where the air is thick with the tantalizing aromas of warm bread and roasted meats and vegetables. You will be treated to a feast while learning everything Soteria offers.

Just outside the dining area, you will find a library packed full of classics, a treasure trove of knowledge and stories from a long-forgotten time, and just beyond the library lies your sleeping quarters, a sanctuary of rest and dreams.

Here at the sanctuary, you will also find indoor plumbing with shower stalls and toilets - luxuries unheard of today.
This sanctuary thrives on the very essence of humanity. A Sanctuary for all - A community for all. Those of you that arrive SURVIVE.

..... AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT THE FLYER READ!!!!!!

I think Rise and 13th gate are probably not good for a 9 year old

I messed up and took a kid through the house of Shock. The messed up thing was they liked it and got into gory horror movies.
I think that haunted house no longer exists though. It was very Satanic.

You could try a 13th Gate escape room. Will need to bring a few more peeps. There are some horror-themed ones but no actors. Just spooky settings and you have to solve puzzles.

fright trail in lafayette is pretty mellow. I dont think rise is a good idea, its pretty legit as far as haunted houses go and much better than 13th gate. there is also dark woods in natchitoches it is a step above fright trail.

What would define a R rated haunted house?

Is there an X rated one? If so, i would like to go to that one

Start with Rise. It's a bit milder than 13th Gate and if he enjoys Rise then take him to 13th Gate. That is what I did with my son when he was 6 and he loves going.
