“There were some disruptions and irregularities with the website, and all of a sudden it shut down completely,” said Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed.

Another failed Louisiana experiment. In order to get the state tax benefit, you need to use their junk program that now most likely got hacked. Very little information coming out on this. Would be great to have the tax benefits with reputable firms such as Vanguard. Don’t worry, “accounts are insured”

It’s been down for 2 weeks. Time to start asking questions. WTF is going on?

It’s taking my automatic deposits but I can’t get online to stop it.

There is a week old money board thread on it.

LOSFA was hacked, likely ransomware. Word is that they caught the attack quickly so personal info was not compromised.

Also scholarship/TOPs payments are also on hold and unaccessible.

To be clear, the program didn’t shut down. START and TOPS still exist, but students and parents have no way to access their accounts. Website are offline, and no one is answering the phones.

There is something very shady happening behind the scenes. TOPS was impacted last week. The state agency LOFSA reportedly had been experiencing problems for several days prior to taking action by shutting down public access to the program and accounts.

Very little information has been shared. There’s a lot of state officials and agencies also in the dark. LOFSA isn’t being forthcoming, and might not even know the full extent.

Is it a technical issue, cyber attack, data leak???

Now it’s also START. The big difference is that START 529 accounts are full of money, as well as personal and financial data of thousands of Louisiana familes, including their personal banking accounts.

The most disturbing thing to me about this is I don’t even know my balance since I’m a few years out from using it.

Does anyone even get a monthly statement ?

Same here - been doing $200/mo for both of my kids and I haven't checked their balances in at least 18 months. Don't need it for 12+ years anyway so I had no reason to be checking balances

It's all through LOSFA.

The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) is a Program of the Louisiana Board of Regents, administering the state’s scholarship and grant programs, and the state’s Internal Revenue Code Section 529 college savings program.
