On This Day In History: October 7 2023: Hamas launches deadliest attack in Israeli history

The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas launches an attack on Israel by land, sea and air, killing nearly 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals, and taking about 250 hostages into Gaza.
The attack, which caught the Israeli military by surprise, was the deadliest single day of violence since the nation’s founding in 1948.
At around 6:30 a.m., Hamas began its assault with a barrage of thousands of rockets aimed at military and civilian sites in Israel. Then, in a multi-front attack, hundreds of Hamas terrorists and armed Palestinian militants from other terrorist groups in Gaza breached Israel’s border defenses. They blasted through border walls, stormed beaches on speedboats and evaded radar with low-flying paragliders.
Once inside Israeli territory, armed militants stormed more than 20 towns and villages near the border with Gaza. One of the worst hit was Kibbutz Be'eri, a small communal village where more than 100 residents were killed, including young children and the elderly. Militants set homes on fire, then shot families as they fled.
Another civilian target was the Nova Music Festival, an outdoor music festival held in the desert near the Gaza border. Hamas fighters blocked off escape routes and swarmed the festival site, firing into crowds of people. Some 378 people were murdered at the festival, mostly young people in their 20s. Dozens more were taken hostage.
Victims of the attack were also subjected to sexual violence, both during the October 7 invasion and while held in captivity in Gaza, according to the U.N.
As they announced the attack, Hamas' military chief stated the operation was in reaction to Israel's ongoing occupation of the Palestinian territories. The blockade of the Gaza Strip, implemented by Israel and Egypt since 2007, was a response to Hamas’ political and military takeover of the territory.
In response to the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared, “We are at war,” and promised that Israel would "return fire of a magnitude that the enemy has not known."
The October 7 attacks were followed by protracted war. During the conflict's first 12 months, tens of thousands of Gaza civilians were killed in Israeli airstrikes, access to food and medical care was disrupted and nearly every household in Gaza was displaced. More than two years after the attack, dozens of Israeli hostages remained in captivity as deliberations over how to end the conflict continued.

A very dark day. Atrocities against total innocents, women, children-rape, torture, murder and kidnapping-filmed gleefully- that only true sociopaths/ antisemites and /or Islamists would support. And yet-all around us-our friends-neighbors and even family members celebrate it. It's just proof that moral idiocy has overtaken The West.
RIP.
RIP.

According to some on here, Israel should've just not even defended themselves.
Oh, and Israel was the aggressor
Curious to know from those people where the dividing line was exactly.

The Israeli military and intelligence had stand down orders to allow it to happen. Let Hamas have their little win so they could have the mandate to wipe them out after.

Serious question-supposing you are right (you aren't) -does that in ANY way lessen the moral atrocities of that day? Did it in any way make the planned merciless torture, rape, kidnapping and murder of complete innocents more palatable to you? Does it in any way lessen or excuse the Palestinians and Hamas?

What kind of deranged individual would downvote this and be okay with beheading infants, children and family members in front of them

Is it true they burned babies in ovens. I've heard people say that

Sociopaths/antisemites/Islamists. Likely one or all of those. It's DARK stuff.

Terrible tragedy. Totally against the killing of innocent people.

That's sadly true. But it really has nothing to do with the recognizing the moral atrocity of that day.

An intelligence agency so skilled that they can set up a third party communications network company, get their avowed enemy to purchase pagers ONLY from that company, distribute 7000 pagers to radical Muslims to communicate, bury explosive devices in each pager, then simultaneously detonate the explosive remotely with the push of a button
Mossad
Somehow missed out on the planning and execution of a cross border raid, with light single person aircraft, that took months to plan, which killed and kidnapped hundreds
Same Mossad
Sure, Jan

I'm reading While Israel Slept right now.
The intelligence services were picking up on the threat and had meetings at 2 AM about it.
However, they did not imagine the sheer scope of the attack. They thought it would be typical cross border raids, rockets, or terrorism as in the past. They did not conceive of a full invasion. The invasion force came close to breaking through and then it would have been on to Tel Aviv with no resistance.
It's sort of like Dune. The Atreides planned for everything but Thufir realized how he failed. He failed to imagine the Harkonnens teaming up with Sardaukar because it was so expensive. He just didn't think of it until it happened. Indeed, the Baron said iit would cost him 50 years of spice profits to pay for the attack. Same thing.
When this is all over, there will be an inquiry as there was in 1973.

Assuming the complete INFALLIBILITY of Mossad-accepting the idea that they are essentially omniscient-the eye in the sky-incapable of intelligence failure/human error-can you explain how that in any way lessens the atrocities perpetuated by Hamas/Palestinians on that day?

I think every one is in agreement that people should not be killing each other.
