For over a decade I did not drink. Lately, I allowed myself to have a couple of drinks here and there. Even just a little makes me feel anxious and depressed the next day. I think I am going dry again. I guess at 44 what is the point? Do any of you experience this too?

Dunno. I'll have to stop a few days and see.

If it makes you feel better about yourself, sure? Good for you man.

If drinking just a little affects you in a negative way then you probably should stop.

Right on brother. Alcohol offers nothing positive and only takes away.

Only when I drink a wee bit more than I should and realize the next morning that I ordered a bunch of random shite from Amazon..

All seriousness though. If it affects you negatively and you can see that then stop drinking.

You probably need a divorce. Drinking is almost never the problem, it's a symptom. If you're married, you start realizing all kinds of uncomfortable things about your wife when you're drinking you're not supposed to think about in polite company. In vino, veritas.

Just go to therapy alone. Solve your problem instead of externalizing it.

Glad to see I’m not the only one.

Giving up alcohol was the absolute best thing I have ever done. I feel and look the best I have ever felt in my life. Do not miss it one bit.

I can’t think of a single positive health benefit to drinking alcohol

Um... why are you only thinking of going dry. Common sense says to go dry. Why would you willingly do something that made you anxious and depressed if you had the choice to NOT do it.

Have scaled back immensely in how much I drink, the hangovers last forever and all of the baggage that comes with it is just not worth it anymore.

I just stopped about 7 weeks ago and it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The sleep quality, energy levels, lack of anxiety/depression, nauseu, etc. I enjoy a good buzz, but the after effects for a couple of enjoyable hours are just not worth it to me anymore. Especially as I prioritize my faith, health/fitness goals.

What he said. It shortens your life and the time that you get to spend with your children and loved ones, it causes health problems and can cause regrets, and there really isn’t a positive to it.

I haven’t totally stopped, but I have drastically scaled back. I think since July I have had half of a beer (on vacation) and one glass of wine (Friday). I regretted that glass of wine on my bike ride on Saturday. I drink some non-alcoholic beer and it helps me get my beer fix.

And also, what the poster above me said: it allows you to prioritize other things like faith and fitness, which are vastly more important than a good buzz with the boys.

My mental health is much better when I'm sober. It's a battle everyday

I don’t drink any less, either. I do have stents where I may go a couple weeks without any alcohol or cigars, but I’m not a quitter…

So do y'all drink until drunk for these side effects or 2-4 drinks? I mean I know it for a week or two if I really tie one on, but two beers or maybe three have no discernable effect. I do know that when I quit drinking a month out of the year, I drop about 15 pounds. I do feel better. I'll pay more attention next time. I may switch to near beer. I just like the taste.

Recommendations? I heard Busch N/A tasted like beer.

I basically gave it up and still feel like shite running on limited sleep all the time with a young and busy family. So I don’t need to pile on top.

I do look back on those nights fondly though, lots of good laughs and memories.
