This is driver error not vehicle insufficiency...look at the pics...they just drove off the side of the trail

Based on the one picture it doesn't look like it got stuck, it just drove off the side of the road. The driver is lucky to be alive.

overlanding trail

Such a stupid term. Every time you get in your car and drive it you're "overlanding."

Definitely some vehicle insufficiency mixed in. Black Bear Pass isn't exactly the place for a Kia Telluride with practically no ground clearance, factory 20" wheels and street tires should be. No idea how he ended up in that spot but if not there he'd have gotten in worse shape further down the trail. There's a decent stretch of fairly technical offroad section on Black Bear that have claimed far further capable vehicles than a Kia Telluride. He should've never even attempted this trail.

That tow is going to cost that Kia driver an arm-and-a-leg.

I did a better job driving a minivan offroad in Grand Teton than this guy.

(It was definitely a mistake and I thought I was gonna get stuck but apparently I have latent off-roading skills)

I rented a toyota camry and took it on trails in colorado. Fun times. I tried to rent a jeep. They were out. So camry plus maxed insurance.
I got stopped a few times and called crazy but i never got stuck. And yes i went on roads that were high clearance double track.
That was my first ever solo trip. Just me, the camry and $2000 worth of the best Cannaguars i could find.

I’ve done this trail. No way an f250 is making the switchbacks section.

Nope. You need something with clearance and more compact. I bet the tires need to get squishy in some parts

That’ll look great in the parts bin once you roll it trying a 28-point turn.

I did the same thing also with a rental Camry that was supposed to be a “Tacoma or equivalent” about 7 years ago around Mount Ranier.

Gave the thing a whore bath at a car wash before I turned it in.

You couldn’t really tell what color the exterior paint was except for the roof and the trunk deck.
