Frank Wilson and RB development

I know he is an elite recruiter, but don't know much about him as a coach except that Fournette, Ridley, Ware, Hill and Williams thrived under his watch and assume the current running woes are all attributed to the o-line (although Kaleb Jackson hasn't developed as expected).
Just curious why Kevin Faulk wasn't retained as RB coach when Kelly came in?

Did you watch the RBs under Faulk? They were bad. Was pretty clear he wasn't a good coach. Granted, Wilson isn't doing a good job either but I think this has more to do with the scheme and blocks which impact the RBs. LSU runs a lot of zone blocks which the OL are clearly not comfortable doing and this has a direct impact on RB lanes. It might explain why none of the RBs have any vision on run lanes as well. If I recall correctly under Miles tenure he mostly ran man block schemes and it allowed the RBs to flourish more. I do remember at least one season Miles tried zone blocking and it seemed like a disaster.

I really don't think RB talent and a lack of coaching is the problem here. I think it is all design.

We have recruited some talent that decided to play thug life instead.

I think it all goes back to our OL style. If we were attacking DL our rb's would have consistent opportunities to press and make a cut. They're getting hit as soon as they touch the ball, or there's no movement.

Frank’s RB rotations are ridiculous.
If Ole Miss can trot out Lacy for 80% of their plays, why can’t we see Harlem Berry more when he’s our only back with good vision right now?
I don’t think it’s developing RBs as much as sticking with the right guys. I wanted Kaleb Jackson to live up to the type so bad, but I am hopeful we don’t see him on the field until Western Kentucky.

That’s correct, it isn’t a coincidence that the RBs and QB are struggling at the same time.

I know yall are looking for anything and everything to blame, but you’re barking up the wrong tree

Yeah, people dump on Sloan all over here but a very clever concept in the Clemson game was to bring a WR in motion and give him the ball. That play worked great several times. It is almost like with the DL in motion the OL can block them better but not 1 on 1 from a standstill. The other thing I've noticed that is on Durham is he simply is NOT quick. Yes, I know he was on Duncanville's very good 4 X 100 relay team but he ran either 2nd or 3rd leg (meaning he was running already when the baton was passed). He is NOT quick getting to the LOS. Berry is quick...Johnson is quick...but Durham is simply not. And I would guess for a track guy, CD is probably like the 6th fastest guy on the team. As you said, RB talent is not the problem. It is the lack of opening holes by the OL. I really don't even think the RBs miss many holes...they simply aren't there.

Good points, what’s infuriating about Saturday is it was clear OM was weak on the edges. Every screen worked so you would think by half time we’d have adjusted and started using jet sweeps and even more screens but we didn’t. I agree with you on Durham, he’s put on some weight plus he’s looked a little knicked from game 1. Also agree with using the quicker backs, it’s almost like the old run and shoot situation where you’ll need to have a back that can make a guy miss in the backfield and really has to anticipate having to do it on the regular.

I think Brad Davis doesn't lay it on the OL, jokes with them, general not caring.

We don't need RBs. The new complimentary team can go w/o them.

No reason he can’t be effective. Auburn, under Gus, had a non running QB (Stidham) and a big, power back in Pettway who was outstanding in a spread only offense. Jackson is more athletic than that guy was.

He probably needed a gap blocking scheme where he wasn’t asked to read blocks as much and could just hit the hole.

Scheme!! Fuxk that one back set shite. Lead blick with TE, OL, whatever

Did I say he was an issue or did I say I don't know much about him and simply asked a question?
The nice thing about a forum is the d#uchebags can simply keep scrolling until they find something they like.
