Is Dicaprio's career the gold standard for what a movie star should do?

He has been one of the biggest movie stars in the world since he was a kid. After Titanic he could have done a bunch of big action star or romcom slop
But instead he set about things very intentionally.
No Marvel Movies. No Star Wars. Very little action or romcom bullshite
Just said I'm going to work with the best directors I can and make films. Its actually a totally incredible decision and filmography when you look at it, and look what other movie stars do.

You can have his movie career if I can have the women he's slept with.

Kristen Zang: (1996–1997)
Amber Valletta: (1997)
Helena Christensen: (1997)
Eva Herzigová: (1998)
Gisele Bündchen: (2000–2005)
Bar Refaeli: (2005–2010)
Blake Lively: (2011)
Erin Heatherton: (2012)
Toni Garrn: (2013)
Kelly Rohrbach: (2016)
Nina Agdal: (2016–2017)
Lorena Rae: (2017)
Camila Morrone: (2017–2022)
Gigi Hadid: (2022–2023)

I would say so.
I think an argument can be made that Tom Cruise has had just as good of an acting career, albeit action movies. I think due to that genre, his career is winding down probably. Leo can go on forever and I have a feeling we havent seen his best work yet.

I kinda wonder if Leo will ever want to step behind the camera like Clint did when he started aging, but he doesn't seem to have that inclination yet.
He can keep working with the best directors on earth until he wants to retire

I would say yes. Every time there's a new Leo movie, I'm there. He's had an incredible career.

He gets older but the girls stay the same age.

The fact that he dated both Bar Refaeli and Gigi Hadid given the current situation with Israel/Palestine is kinda funny

I'm sure I'll get downvoted for this but I've always thought he was overrated. Not saying that he's a bad actor I just don't think he's just not as great as everyone makes him out to be.

He's not Daniel Day Lewis or Marlon Brando, but he is a damn good actor and this is more about the path he's chosen to take.
He's chosen to be a film actor, to work with the best directors working and to make mostly "films" instead of doing bubble gum summer tentpole films

Killers of the Flower Moon absolutely SUCKED. Leo hasnt been good since Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Guess with his last 3 he really wanted to lean into his libtard views.

What did that guy do in a past life?
To be where he is, has had the amount of success and arguably one of the greatest roster turnovers of women, of all time.
And considered one of the greatest of the current time.
Arguably may not have done his best work yet.

I'm old enough to remember everyone bashing him for choosing The Beach when he was the hottest young star in Hollywood and had his pick of projects.
Also, he reportedly had a miserable time making Titanic as did most of the other cast and crew. Everyone remembers that movie as a critical and financial megahit, but when they were making it and during the promotion, it was all negative and people were saying that it was Waterworld on steroids and it was going to kill the film industry, etc. I think Leo has hinted that experience, even though it made him a star, has formed his picky career approach.

I did too and have been there, they said the beach was cleared and made just for the movie, it just to be a lot of vegetation and no beach.

He's done a really good job choosing roles. It's odd to me though that I don't really think about any of his movies as 'Leonardo DiCaprio movies' the way I think of a Tom Cruise movie being a 'Tom Cruise movie'.

No Marvel Movies. No Star Wars. Very little action or romcom bullshite
Maybe he's not able to pull off some of that. He's done a great job of staying in his lane and keep doing that. He's best when playing a dark brooding character. And to be honest, I hope it stay that way for him. Nobody wants to see Leo playing in Aquaman or 50 First Dates.
